The worst part is that he seemed angry that it didn't work and I got my deserved spot.

Yeah usually it's spoofers. So I try to prestige as close to 50000 as I can without going over, and then wait, and then slay the bottom mon quickly and pop my mon in. This time, right after I put my mon in the gym some guy nearby gets all huffy and stares me down and walks away.

I wondered about this, but it doesn't really make sense with the prestige levels. If we both were prestiging since 42000 or whatever then we would have gone over 50000 way sooner. And when I stopped at 49500 there wasn't any battle animation on the gym. I think it's possible he waited for me to prestige it from 42000 to 49500 or whatever and then tried to quickly prestige the last 500 to steal the spot. Still bad form IMO.
The happend to me earlier ( I didn't see the sniper ) I was going from 20kto 30 lot open a spot and the GPS correction was driving me crazy I was doing 1250 XP at a time as lots of blisses was after that , before 50 XP of the spot opening I noticed some sparks on the gym so I didn't train waited till the spot open and got my hard earned spot :)
