Jolteon - Tier B?

I was hoping to get clarification on Jolteon and it's new attacker tier ranking. How is it tier B (above fire legendaries with great neutral damage and role attackers like gyarados and bugs for mewtwo or venusaur/victreebel for water raids)? The only description says it is inferior to both electric legendaries. Doesn't being strictly outclassed lower something in ranking? If you already have two great options, why make a third lesser one? Also, as an electric type it doesn't have a huge role to fill (grass against water, rock for flying).

Edit: I just didnt think it should be tier C and would like to know what sets it a level above those in tier C. With a vaporeon raid, venusaur, victreebel, and jolteon all have similar time to win but jolteon has the least power. https://www.pokebattler.com/raids/defenders/VAPOREON/cp/16696/attackers/attackerLevels/30/strategies/CINEMATIC_ATTACK_WHEN_POSSIBLE/DEFENSE_RANDOM_MC?sort=OVERALL&dodgeStrategy=DODGE_REACTION_TIME#results

Watch some online videos and jolteons performance is pretty much in line with zapdos. It's def the second choice but there's a much wider gap between raikou and zapdos than there is between zapdos and jolteon.

Agreed. On Pokebattler, my 100% level 30 ZC Zapdos is being outperformed by my 91% level 20 WC Raikou against water raid bosses Suicune and Vaporeon.

With regards to a solo vape, Venusaur and Victreebel are tier C and I don't know Jolteon to be better there.

I guess I was thinking moltes maybe more than Entei, which is so good neutral that it gets noted as a snorlax counter (good). Not saying Jolteon is bad, but I don't get why/how it is a clear tier above those in C.

fair enough i was just trying to think of the reasons for it. you must of replied just as I descided that my comment didn't really add to the conversation.

I think once you get down into low tier attackers it doesn't matter so much anyway and people are just using what they have.

Fire simply isn't useful at the moment. There are no common defenders that are weak to fire, and a handful of them resist fire. The only Raid boss in all of Tiers 3, 4, and 5 that are weak to fire are Venusaur, which is clearly not a priority for people, and Articuno, which has passed and had a stronger weakness to rock. Having high neutral DPS is hardly useful either, as there's always a real counter with a type advantage.

Gyarados is best at nothing, plain and simple. Even as a Dark type attacker against a boss with Focus Blast, Dragonite's neutral DPS is on par, and if you're soloing Gengar or Alakazam, you can dodge with your Tyranitars anyway.

Scizor and Pinsir are good for Alakazam and Mewtwo raids, but they're clearly not the best and they're not useful for any common defenders other than the occasional Exeggutor.

As for water type raids, Jolteon is the fastest non-legendary aside from Exeggutor. Because Blastoise can have Flash Cannon or Ice Beam and Suicune can have Extrasensory, Venus and Vic's defensive typing only makes it a clear cut winner in durability against Vaporeon, where Jolteon's higher DPS is more important anyway. Aside from legendaries, Exeggutor is the best grass and Jolteon is the best electric.

For people who may not have been able to obtain legendaries due to not having enough people to raid with, Jolteon is still their best option to counter Gyarados, which is still a common defender despite the gym rework and Super Effective being increased.

It’s so sad that Gyarados having that amazing stats and that high candy evolve cost has become completely useless, it used to be a good defender, but now Raikou, Zapdos, Jolteon and even Golem crush him in any gym, maybe when mega evolutions comes to the game he and his dark moveset will shine like never

Thanks. Noting the nuance edges Jolteon gets with certain movesets was good. I did miss that. It seem like Jolteon has several small advantages over the grasses in those water raids (suicune, Blastoise, vaporeon) that add up.

Jolteon is a bad ass and a really fast hard hitting attacker. I can easily take out a dragonite at 3500 with my 2600 Jolteon. Aside from a handful of mons he doesn't have bad matchup and hits hard. The speed and energy gain of thunder shock helps him so much

No. Being strictly outclassed should NOT lower its ranking, as its base stats and moveset are still the same
