Jolteon Defender

I had 2 Jolties with Defensive moveset VS/D. So my mind just fight with itself. Ive known Jolty is kinda useless when defending Gym cause low STA but i cannot tranfer them neither cause they got optimally defensive moveset and great iv (91 and 93). Please help me:
-Was Jolteon USABLE or NEEDFUL defender in a gym some case ?
-What should i do with them ?
P/S: Thank to all advises.

Just no. Jolteon was never and will never be a good defender. It will be crushed before the chance to do anything.

Just use him to crush a brunch of Gyarados or other water type pokemons around such as vaporeon etc. On attacking he is good with dodging and you will be fine and won't need much pots to get him back at full hp.

I would keep them and use for attacking.

If you feel they are so bad on it because of the move set, just keep them.

Wouldn't be smart to transfer a 91 and 93 IV guys. Even if bad move set or bad role as defender who knows what can happen in the future maybe TM's come out or something that make your Jolteons better in some way. Also it feels bad to transfer such a nice IV pokemons away. There are always better options imo.

Oh now i can not make up my mind. Somebody said Moveset is all in offense and now u said like IV is better. What confuse ! :<

Usually, that is true for attackers, moveset is very important. But the thing about Jolteon, is that most of his movesets are good offensively, the difference between his "best" and "worst" offensive movesets is not that big, and since all his moves are electric, all combinations will be great against Gyarados for example. I have a few Jolteons with high IV and "bad" movesets (a 91% with Discharge for example), and I love to use it against Gyarados, and also keep due to a possibility that we may be able to somehow change movesets in the future

Only potential role in current gym scene is attackers into gyarados. See how they perform in that role. I wouldn't flush them if not though, since they've got great IVs and there's that rumored gym update coming...

Exact IVs and current levels? Maybe just save whichever one has the better IV distribution if you want to hold onto the option waste a bunch of stardust later.

A perfect 100% Jolteon at level 30 is 2340cp; at level 39 is 2691cp. Up to you to decide if that is high enough to place in gyms around you.

Keep them and see how the game develops. These movesets might become Legacy someday. Maybe attack crappy gyms with 'em when it tickles your fancy, not every gym is held by metagaming perfectionists (at least in cities).

Just my opinion but I think with Jolteons high max cp it can pack a punch! Not sure about volt switch in practice though, but if it's better than the old best defensive moveset I wouldn't see a problem inin leveling them

Atm Jolteon isn't really a viable gym defender, but hold onto them. As people have said there's a gym rework coming, and it could potentially change the defensive game completely. If Jolteon does become usable you'll have two very good defenders there.
