IV calc results, sanity check

How do I single out which proposed stats are correct when getting multiple alternatives on the onsite IV calculator?
Example:
Gastly, CP 862, HP 56, 7k dust/8 candy to power up. Strong, blown away by HP.
Proposed stats by the calculator (A/D/S) are 14/6/15 or 9/10/15.
How do I sort out which one is correct?

How's your candy situation?

I've found the higher the targets CP is the more accurate. IF you're not hurting for Gastly candies I'm sure the calculator will be able to identify it as Haunter.

That said. Neither of those stats are particularly amazing. Even if you were to fully evolve if you won't get Shadow Claw.

Is it worth it? The choice is yours.

Either way it will be good for Alakazam solos. Easiest way to find out is powering up, hard way is using it in a battle where you can calculate that one combination will take one more enemy fast move to die than the other.

EDIT: Checked and you need to do 2 power ups to know which one it is. 9 atk combination has 876 cp at 35, 14 atk combination has 875.

If you choose to power it up a bit, the results will likely be narrowed down. Otherwise, I've heard that certain apps exist that will sync with your account to accurately calculate every IV value, though I'm personally hesitant to trust any such app, (I've invested too much time into my account to risk being banned).

All apps like that break TOS and have led to shadowbans before. You also need to give them your login information which needless to say is never a good idea.

I have a close friend who uses one, and has never been banned, but still, I only use the gamepress IV checker myself.

Are you sure they use one that breaks the TOS or one that's just an overlay that records the screen?

This is because of a difference in level and you can check the arc above the pokemon with other pokemon with their levels known.

It is a bit of a hassle but this way I am able to check it.

It's not a difference in level, I checked. The two IV combinations have the exact same hp and cp at the same level and since hp IV is the highest, appraisal can't be used to differentiate them either.

You're right, checked it myself and both iv combinations are level 34. I have never seen this before, also curious what the solution will be

Two ways:

1) Power it up
2) Evolve it

I'd suggest evolving it to Haunter to see if it's the 14/6/15, even if you are low on candies (but have enough to evolve it) because with the weather boosts to spawn rates, when it gets Cloudy you can likely find Gastly's every time. (They're like Pidgey's here when it gets Cloudy - it's like the Pidgey's are killed by the lack of clear skies and are resurrected as a Gastly...)

If that doesn't narrow it down for you, then power it up if you have the dust to try with. Personally, I'd risk it for a Pokémon as useful as Gengar - 7000 Stardust isn't nearly as big as it sounds thanks to the Weather Boosts and the 500 Stardust for attempting a Raid. And even an Attack 9 Gengar is useful at that level.

Put it in a gym then scan it with gymhuntr.

Various methods to narrow down:
- GymHuntr
- Power up and/or evolve
- Fight against a tier 1 raid. Calculating breakpoints and then counting the number of fast attacks used. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/7hlsfv/using_a_tier_1_raid_to_complete_iv_calculations/

Thanks everyone.
It is now an L35 Gengar, cp 2358 with 102 hp.
Still no final word on the stats though.
