Increase in spawns?

As I walked around my three local towns today I noticed more pokemon at pokestops than usual.. I wasn't sure if they just changed the spawn times or increased the drop count or if I just got lucky until I found a new spawn point in my town in a spot I haven't seen active since July '16. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed increase spawns since the Gen 2 update too to confirm my suspicions.
