[Idea Discussion] Status Changes (Sleep, etc.)

If you've played any of the Gameboy games then surely you remember status changes (Sleep, Paralysis, Burn, Freeze, Poison, Confusion, etc.)

That used to be one of the ways to use Gengar as a sweeper was to put the foe to sleep then use dream eater.
I'm not necessarily in favor of this idea, I just want to hear if there are any good ideas on how to implement, or if you think it would be too frustrating.

I could see this implemented a few ways, such as, perhaps, a full charge bar move which deals no damage or has a very high CD time but has a high probability of putting the enemy to sleep. So it would be a gamble using it because if it doesn't put them to sleep then you just take damage during the cool down.

Any thoughts?

I feel like status conditions were an intricate yet annoying and overly-luck-dependent part of the regular pokemon games. Even if there were 100% affliction moves, removing the condition was still by chance.

I disliked them for the chance in the games, but they at least had a place as part of strategy. I don't think they have a place in PokemonGo. They'd simply overcomplicate things too much when the larger player-base here isn't as informed.

I would like that. That could conceivably widen the pool of viable pokemon without having to resort to powercreep esq buffs or nerfs.

TTT does bring up a good point though. Status Effects are definitely the sort of thing that would have to be incredibly clear as to what exactly they do for players to be able to judge whether they are worth it or not. However, so far Niantic has been absolutely terrible at explaining anything about Pokemon Go.
