I think Niantic is tired...

Makes sense
Last event: mark down lucky eggs = quick $

Gym rework (50 coin max) + Raids (100 coins a pop) + making Leveling up worthless = quick $, and a slap in the face to whoever bought into the previous event

Anniversary = A surprise box (1200 coins) with mostly items inside that you can't get from spinning pokestops/gyms. Yes, raid passes are free, incubators only thing not free = an attempt at quick $, and a slap to the face of all who play this game, especially the long-term trainers.

When a company wants to quit, or know it's going under, it tends to sell out, and everything is for sale, even the furniture.

When you buy the box it should play the sad trombone sound.

Like one who wants more money? Why else would another company buy it?
Nasty ads before you can enter a gym or catch a Pokémon?

I think there is still a lot of untapped potential in the game in and a lot of profit still to made.

Like when next month they sell 100,00 dust for 1,000 coins?

Obviously they gave away many things in the recent past including Raid bosses and rare pokemons during events. This one is not a sell out, to the contrary, they do not give it away for free. It's an Anti-Event.

Yeah, they seem on their last leg honestly...the Solstice event brought about so much hype, and I gained 3 levels that week, 27-30...and then the rework happened...and everything just kind of fell flat after the initial few days of raid interest. I'm honestly surprised The Pokemon Company hasn't intervened. They could've made such a healthy heaping profit off of this as well and also helped Niantic learn what a good idea is. Such a shame, because the game to me is still fun. Unfortunately though, my interest is steadily waning.
