I got a perfect Squirtle and Wartortle lined up for CD in Japan soon. Is it any good though? To power or up for gym use?
HC Blastoise is alright, but nothing to write home about. It still gets outclassed by the powerhouse water types.
Also, unless I'm reading your post wrong, Squirtle CD has come and gone, so your perfect Squirtle/Wartortle won't learn HC when you evolve them. The only upcoming CD on the horizon is the two-day CD for Eevee in August.
Articuno day and Squirtle CD in Japan will both be held on the 4th of August. (They got postponed due to severe weather conditions.)
As for the question, Hydro Cannon Blastoise has slightly higher DPS than Hydro Pump Vaporeon, but a significantly lower TDO. As a Gym defender it is also inferior to Vaporeon, so I wouldn't invest any stardust in them.
I maxed out a Blastoise with hydro can for sentimental reasons. Hydro Cannon is a nice move for taking out weak gym opponents. It goes SUPER fast and does decent damage. Paired with water gun makes it really easy to dodge with as well. But, like others have said, it's really not in the same league as Kyogre and Gyarados. I enjoy using it, even if the dust could have been spent elsewhere.
