How useful is Raikou as a generalist?

Just want to seek your opinion about the usefulness of raikou as a generalist like dragonite or tyranitar.

It seem its DPS towards common gym defenders like blissey, snorlax, chansey and so on is so so.

I powered up one with TS/WC to level 30, I'm thinking if I need to power it further up as a generalist or not. And I still have some raikou candies left.

If you want to take down the very common blissey, chansey, and snorlax, use Machamp.

If you want a general cleaner, use Dragonite.

Raikou's only value in the meta CURRENTLY is that it is the most optimal attacker right now for solo Vaporeon raids. Seriously, that thing rips through Vaporeon with ridiculous power.

Your well selling Raikou short.

Many gyms I see surround the Blissey/Chansey/Snorlax trio with psychics (like Alk, Espeon, Eggy) or flyers (Gary and Dragonite)

This makes Machamp not a great generalist. Which to answer the question IMO means to take out at least 2 or 3 defenders.

Dragonite is probably still better than raikou but if there are enough waters(especially Gary) / dragonites, you might be better off with Raikou.

He's one of the top generalist in the game currently. I guess just Mewtwo and Dragonite are slightly better.

Here's a video demonstrating the performance of Raikou in gym battles:

Overall, it feels very good. Thunder Shock is quick and so is Wild Charge as a charge move. Feels like DB/O. With some attention, you can dodge with Raikou pretty well.
It needs to be noted that Machamp is still the definite answer to the gym. Raikou is just an alternative option if you are tired of what you are using (let it be Machamp, Dragonite or T tar).

A lot of trainers in this community will disagree with me but I am against having a line up of the same type of Pokemon. 1. It's boring. I enjoy a team of Mewtwo, Dragonite, Tyranitar, Moltres, Raikou and Entei or even mix it up with Zapados or Gary if he can do anything special against the target. 2. You never know whats in store for next year. They may do something completely different then raids and that line up of Ttars is going to be has useful as that line up of Snorlax and Blisseys from year 1. So yes power up the Raikou.

I agree. I love having a diverse lineup in each gym battle and choose each team member based on type effectiveness. That said, it's very rare for me to find a gym without some type of water type in it; local trainers love their Gyarados. So I use my Raikou multiple times every day. Power it up and enjoy.

I like using different mons for solo tier 3, so no duplicate, and to make it more interesting, no legendary to use also
I like doing it if i have plenty time to spare/ not in a hurry, and that gym is located in the comfortable area for me.
Off course i prepared my main team when i cant do it with that no duplicate team for whatever reason..
Main team will battle when there is only 20 minutes before the raid boss despawning

Raikou can be a useful generalist against a lot of pokemon. Electric is only resisted by grass, ground x2, electric, and dragon.

I don't use one go to generalist. I look for what might exploit the most weaknesses or resistances. Sometimes that is Tyranitar or Dragonite, but othertimes it could be Machamp or Raikou or maybe your fire attacker of choice.

I powered my Raikou up a bit higher than 30 partly so I wouldn't need to scroll down as far to find it.

Depends on what you see in Gyms.

Right now, I have Raikou as the best or 2nd best generalist in the game. Only dragonite is on par.

However, a large part of that ranking comes from the fact that right now I don't see Rocks/Grounds in gyms at all. Not only do I live in more of a water biome, but with the boss being Entei, no one puts their golems or rhydons in gyms atm.

With suicune up next, I expect Golems and Rhydons to return to Gym scene.

If your Gym scene has more grounds than waters, it's not a great generalist.

If your Gym scene has more waters than grounds it is.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. Consensus was yes he’s absolutely a top 3 generalist with only dragonite and possibly mewtwo being better. A lot of people like tyranitar as a generalist also but I’d put a confusion/solar beam exeggutor above him because of the damage difference from confusion vs bite

I have two (twin 100%) powered up to level 36, and have been using Raikou as a generalist for awhile. A good choice is Mewtwo (Focus Blast) and a Raikou as lead off. The Mewtwo is for trimming the fat off of Blissey, Snorlax, and Chansey, while the Raikou is for pretty much everything else, and as a quick round two and round three primary attacker. Of course, you could go Machamp/Raikou. As mentioned, you can dodge well with Raikou, and the two bar Wild Charge let's you carry over more charge moves into the next defender to speed up the process of clearing the gym.

I know your question is Raikou as a generalist, but Ho-Oh will show up soon in Ex Raids. According to pokebattler, my two Raikou are part of my top six attackers into Ho-Oh, along with Golems, and will not be as vulnerable should Ho-Oh have Solar Beam.
