How necessary is Machamp to your attacking line up?

I got very lucky, I evolved a 98% Machamp with Counter/Dynamic Punch (I believe this is the best offensive move set).

I am very frugal with my stardust. Obviously this machamp is great candidate to power up.

My question however is how necessary is a good machamp in this meta game? I know Machamp is fantastic against Tyranitar as well as Blissey (but a blissey with ZH and psychich can hurt it bad).

Is there any other reason to incorporate a machamp in your offensive line up? What are your views on how necessary he is?

If you've got a bunch of good Gen1 Dragonites, there's no real need. Machamp doesn't have a ton of bulk, so he's a good individual matchup pokemon, not a sweeper.

So if you've already got good sweepers (DB-DC Dragonites) then he's not as useful. I hardly ever use my Machamps with Counter/DP or CC for that matter.

Thanks for your input. I got extremely unlucky with my dragonite evolutions pre-gen 2 and only have 1 with DB/XX. I have 6x 90IV+ dragonites but the remaining 5 ended up with SW and DT.

This is why I am kind of thinking about powering the machamp up. My only issue is that he is basically useful against a few meta game pokemon (2 of which Snorlax and Blissey have moves that are SE against him).

To deal the most damage in the shortest time. So you would like to KO opponents asap.

Yeah, he's a great individual Counter -- not necessarily a sweeper. He's a good cog in a lineup, but he's not going to clean up 3-4 pokemon in a gym.

I tried using my ~1600 Machamp with Counter/Dynamic Punch against a ~1800 Rhydon in a gym and was not too impressed by him. Even though he has pretty good defense and stamina, for some reason he took a lot of damage.

I think this goes for all pokemon. Test it out for yourself before powering up.

Ryhorn (As exeggcutor, as Espeon) hits like a rock. If you are not going x4 (water, grass) vs that ryhorn, you are going to take bunch of damage.

I live in an area where machop is rare, so it might be a while before I get a good gen 2 machamp. I'd love to have one, however, to counter Blissey and Snorlax.

I don't see why you wouldn't spend it when you encounter Snorlax and Blissey frequently. Unless you have a ton of Dragonites w/ DB or FS/OH that's by far the best attacker into Blissey.

Well, machamps are now good specialist attackers into the 3 main gym time sinks ( Blissey, Snorlax, and Chansey). Definitely a good addition into ur offensive team.

U might wanna check out this vid ( https://youtu.be/OFkcX3Up1XE ) if ur interested in Machamp movesets.

Also this vid ( https://youtu.be/GnOj8TyygOU ) if u wanna compare it to dragonites ( since the Chansey and Blissey are the same )
