How does Houndoom project as an attacker?

I am currently level 32, and caught my very first perfect wild mon this morning at the coffee shop (previously hatched 100% Eevee and Pichu). Question is whether Houndoom might be relevant enough to make this guy my buddy and grind out enough candies to evolve him.

FWIW, note the CP… I don't recall selling my soul to catch him ; )

If growlithe are common in your area then houndour will be too so just walk chansey. But if griwoithe are rare, go for it.

Thanks. Water/plant biome so Growlithe are pretty rare here, but I am going to LA next month where they are a dime a dozen, so maybe I'll wait to see if Houndour are commonplace there also.

At the very least you should be able to find a nest somewhere in the area. Save up some pinap berries so you only have to spend about half as much time if you need to make a special trip to a nest somewhere.

Well, if you get 2 dark moves he can be good

Mewtwo, Lugia, Celebi, Mew, Espeon, Exeggutor, Alakazam, Jynx, Slowbro, Slowking, Starmie, Hypno, Mr. Mime, Gengar.
These are the psychic types (plus Gengar, lol) that are above 2k CP. All pokemon you can see in a gym, especially if we ever get to see legendaries, a strong dark attacker could be very useful, this is where Houndoom will shine. Also I said it just because there are better fire attackers, but not better dark attackers right now

Pretty sure Tyranitar is a better dark attacker, but other than that your point is valid.

He might be, Tyranitar has Crunch (35 true DPS), but Houndoom has Foul Play (50 true DPS). However the quick move is weaker, so.. I guess you need to do the math to be sure, and you would hate getting crunch on your tyranitar anyway :D

You'll rarely see mime, jynx, or starmie in a gym. Legendaries aren't out out yet, and by the time they are you'll have a better dark type. The onky ones ur likely to see are alakazam, gengar, and solowbro/king. And they have better counters than dark.

My advice, don't ever walk mon to complete pokédex with the only exceptions of the most rares ones, at this point the only mon I would walk would be Dratini, Snorlax, Larvitar or Mareep, and maybe Chansey just because of Blissey. The rest will come to you eventually from eggs or from the wild, and now with the new berries you can get double candies from the ones you really want/need.

I have wasted sooo many km's walking mons to complete gen1 pokédex just to realize soon after that my effort was useless because I found them eventually, like Charmander, Grimer, Koffing, Machop, all of them walked from tens of km just to get them from eggs and from nests/wild spawns.

Houndoor will be like Growlithe, so sooner or later you will find a nest of them, or a biome where they spawn, or a double candy event, anything better than wasting precious buddy km's.

Don't kill me, just my thoughts ;)

Makes complete sense to me. I'm still walking a 93 IV Dragonair and need 10 more candies to get my first decent Dragonite (I caught a level 6, 33 IV wild one that I've never powered up). On the other hand, I have 4 Lapras and 11 Snorlax so I'm not complaining.

Finish your Dragonite and then buddy Larvitar or Mareep, at least is what I would do, I got my Larvitar with almost 35km now, got lucky to catch one on the first day.

Do you not think there will be nests of Mareep too?

I can't believe Mareep will be as rare as Dratini/Larvitar.

I really think Mareep will be like Dratini and Larvitar at this point, there is no other reason to put him on 10k a part from making his candies rare, and being a 3 stage evolution needing 124 candies to get an Ampharos means that people will be playing a LOT, either to get him and Tyranitar, they want to make sure that people keeps playing and buying incubators, without those rare mons gen2 would last a month max and all players would be asking for more content.

So the answer is yes. I really think there are not and there will not be any Mareep nests at all.

NOTE: Just checked TSR, no Mareep nests at all, but there are Houndoor nests for sure all over the world

That's why I think it was a brain dead move to make heracross the South American regional. He could have been one of the rare Mon that people all over would have ground for hour after hour to get.

Ya and heracross is a really good mon, way better than the orher reigonals. If ima travel for a reigonal, im going to south america.
