How do you name your pokémons?

Hi guys, babyfreez3 from TeamValor#
I wonder how you name your/sort your pokemons in your inventory ? I've named them as only "percentage" like "88.9%" and I give them special icons for attack it's like "88.9% +" and for defense "91.1% []" .I feel it's not a proper naming and it's like treating them as only numbers so I want to change it, and please share your ideas I'd be glad to hear.
(considering naming my pokemons only the popular ones) ...I thought It would be a different question, thank you...

Snorlax89aD means IV is 89, rated B for attack, rated A for Defense.
Snorlax82AD means IV is 82, rated A for both attack and defense.
Dragonite78A means IV is 78, rated A for attack, not an A or B move for defense.
Dragonite82- means 82 IV, bad moves.
I am on 16 gyms, some are perma gyms so I add a letter like l for Library. I mark legacy moves with L.

Yeah, it would also feel wrong for me to call my mons only as numbers/codes haha.

So my method is to favourite them if they have good IVs (80%+), and keep their name together with Unicode symbols which represent the type of their moves (if they are any good for attacking). It's similar to what TrainerTips does and I find it effective, quick to do and aesthetically pleasing.

I also add a "#" before the name of the mons I want to evolve and the percentage of their IVs after it, but that's just a simple way to identify/choose them when I'm mass evolving.

I use a character prefix for electric/fire/water prestigers so I can sort by name and have faster access to them when trying to power level with Gyarados/Pinsir/Arcanine. Not terribly useful since I don't power level gyms that often, may reconsider.

I've been too lazy to implement this idea, but you can use hexadecimal to encode the full triple of IVs using only 3 characters. Leaves you room for abbreviations of which attacks it has, and the first few characters of the species name.

Hex is a good idea - when I was starting with IV's I would only apply it to top-tier pokemon, who rarely have an individual stat of 5 or less - so something like 503 would mean A:15, D:10, S:13. I also like to append a few letters at the end if in a solid gym so I know where to go back to if he gets kicked out!

I use iV percentages untill im happy with a specific IV and moveset combo.

At which point i tend to actually give them a real name. Because they come one of my main pokemon that i know is good

IV distribution + abbreviated moveset.

Keeping the name is redundant when there's a picture, and percentages and moveset ratings are less precise.

IVs are not weighted equally and how would you differentiate between 2 movesets that had the same rating if you wanted to use a specific moveset. e.g. if you wanted to use Mud Slap + Earthquake and not Mud Slap + Stone Edge and the two Pokemon had the same stats.

If it's a Pokemon I'm looking to evolve then I'll name it the IV and level, if IVs are uncertain, it depends. If I can I'll list the stat ranges and infer the rest from the appraisal, if I can't, then I'll just name the total IV range with the level.

By "IV distribution" do you mean the general appraisal level, i.e. Tier 1, Tier 2 etc?
Any thought to starting names of prestigers with 1K, 1.2K, 1.5K etc to cluster them by CP level?

IV distribution as in 12 attack, 13 defence and 15 stamina for example.

That's 40 IV points out of 45, distributed among 3 different attributes, whereas 89% could mean any IV permutation that totals 40.

For prestigers, maybe you could start their name with a symbol and then their CP (or closest 100 CP), and abbreviated moveset, and sort by name, so this way they're at the top, as if you were sorting by CP, except that you don't have to scroll down past pages of attacking Pokemon.

e.g. if I had a 1579 Raichu for prestiging I could name it ~1.6 S/T

~ (or any symbol) to put it at the top when sorting by name
1.6 as in 1.6k CP
S/T = Spark + Thunder

I name them by ISM = IV Stat Moves
Sample: Vaporeon
IV = 97.8
Stat: Attack 15, Defense 15, Stamina 14
Moves: Water Gun + Hydro Pump

So then this is his name:
97.8@554WgHp

Jampoke, why not use Hex for IV?
So your example would be 97.8@FFEWgHp

It gets near... As each point IV less then 15 means 2,2% IV, the number at the beginning is not necessairy.

FFEWgHp

would do, but is not optimal. As a Vaporeon can only have Wg, just leave it out,

FFEHp tells all. There is only one little detail left: I use captial/small letters for Moves, mostly 2 seldom 3 letters:
Ac Acid (1 Word -> Capital Letter + small Letter)
WG Water Gun (2 Words -> 2 Capital Letters)
HP Hydro Pump
SoB Solar Beam (Multiple interpretations: 3 Letters)
SeB Seed Bomb
SlB Sludge Bomb

So my vaporeon would be called

FFEHP

I keep the name and add the 3 values at the end with hex. so perfect vaporeon would be VaporeonFFF.
If the name is too long, I just take out the last letter - or give it a nickname. For ones I don't know the exact IV, I just put the estimated total IV (ie 38 or 3742 - could be 37-42 IV)
For prestigers I add a symbol at the end, usually that mon will have STAB moves anyways.

Basically each mon has at most a few movesets we could call optimal or useful. So just make a code for each move type:

An example with Vaporeon:

Vaporeon-93> would be a 93% IV Vape with Hydro Pump. I use the ">" for single bar charge moves.

Vaporeon-89• would signify 89% obviously, but this time the "•" denotes Aqua Tail because it can be used offensively / defensively.

Finally, Vaporeon-96D would signify a 96% IV Water Pulse Vape. The D obviously denotes defensive moveset.

Also, if a mon like Dragonite has three useful defensive movesets you can set up another symbol, I use "¥" to aymbolize the optimal defensive moveset. Then just use "D" and "d" to signify the other remaining Defense movesets.
