How did I get a "Battles Won"

How does a mon get a "Battle Won" label in a defending gym?

One of my mons got one for the first time. I think I surprised the attacker - I had just prestiged up a L3 gym with just 3 Vaporeons defending it, and added a Blissey they may not have been expecting.

Maybe it refers to the trainer.
You won 1 time the battle prestiging the gym

Means the mon KOed the attackers team. Instead of withdrawing they got wiped out by that Pokemon.

Prestiging has no affect it's just opposing teams losing the last member of their team to that defender.

I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it's not this.
Often, right as I put a pokemon in a gym it has 1 or 2 battles won, and by right after I mean 1 second...with no battles happening, of course.

Battles Won are added after your Pokémon has been kicked out of a gym. The next time you place it it'll have it displayed and it stays with that poke forever

Means that the Pokémon took out an entire 6 mon team alone. I'm not sure however. In other words you must be lowest in the gym. It's permanent meaning that it will inherit the title even if it's knocked out and put in another gym
