How are we alerted about a raid? Do we have to SEE it?

or is there a notification from one of the gyms we have visited in the area, because I can only see one gym from my home.

The panel where the mons near you are displayed has two tabs now, u can see there the raids close to u.
At least it is how inbelieve it works because i havent seen any yet

Does it happen to be Sprint? I have only seen raids that show up on my map. Do not know about badges i have though, that would be nice.

Sprint stores and Starbucks store only at this moment

Confirmed Starbucks? this is huge because I have two in my town compared to no sprint lol

It has to be within the view distance of your character on the map
