Higher iv vs triple stat iv ?

Why is it that for example a 93% 14/14/14 raikou is a lower iv compared to a 96% one that has a stat of 15/15/13 or 15/14/14? Do those 1 or two perfect stats really make a difference? I would think a triple stat 14/14/14 iv mon would be just as good as a 96% or 98% one and one of the next best you can get compared to a perfect iv mon. (edited: misinterpret what I wrote at first, my apologies.) If you were in this situation would you most likely power up the one with a triple stat below 96% or would you try and get a higher iv one?

the next best thing to a perfect IV mon is one that has 15-15-14 or 15-14-15.

Ok I got that.. I think you misunderstood or I misinterpreted my question wrong at first so sorry about that. I know a 98% mon is considered the second best to a perfect iv mon. I just don't understand how a triple stat 14/14/14 iv mon couldn't be considered just as good as a 96% or 98% one.

Simply because it will perform a tiny, tiny bit worse than a 96 or 98, except maybe for a 13/15/15 one. But you would never notice in real battle.

Each IV point is roughly 2%-points (1/48). So a 15/15/15 is 100%, deduct one point and you have a 98%, deduct one more point and you have a 96%, deduct one more point and you're at 93% (rounded), deduct one more point and you are at 91%, deduct one more point and it's 89%.

I think I have made my point. The difference in actual battle are miniscule unless you reach a damage breakpoint, which is why people primarily obsess about the attack IV.

Understandable.. my question then is if I'm reading correctly, even with a 14/14/14 iv if I were to come across let's say a mon with a perfect attack iv but the other two stats were 13/13, 13/14 or 13/12 those mons regardless of there other iv's would still have a better dmg breakpoint?
But depending on the mon and battle simulation, a higher def & stam iv would make said mon last much longer allowing for more dps so even with a mon having a 14 attack iv as long as it has the same or a high defense and stamina iv it would still be able to put out just as much dps as a mon with a perfect attack iv since it would last longer? Depending on the iv of the mon of course.

Yes.

But we have to remind ourselves, that in most real life cases, this is of little to no use.

In other words, at any given point it is very unlikely that you will find yourself in a battle where a single IV point will reach a damage breakpoint, or a defense breakpoint or JUST be that point which keeps you alive to fire another attack.

Or think about it this way: In most cases you will probably want to just bring your mons to L30. Well if you have a 14/14/14 mon then just bring it to L30,5 instead and it should be as good, if not better, than a 15/15/15 at L30.
