So I have a shiny togepi, and got excited when I saw it had hidden power dark (Good for countering togekiss' best counter metagross) but then I heard that hidden power changes when evolving, that true?

As usual, all moves are randomized when evolving. However, Hidden Power may be a special case. We'll see.

Just checked on an old question of mine - if you FTM Hidden Power to the other move and then back again, you always get the same Hidden Power. So it's possible that you can get or FTM after evolving and get the same one, or that it will be rerandomized. We'll find out soon enough when people start evolving their Togetics.

I know moves are random when evolving, but I heard that the type of hidden power changes when evolving, like as a togepi its dark, but it could change to say psychic when it evolves to togetic

I've heard that it rerolls the type when evolving but didn't pay attention when evolving my 2 Togetics. Don't really want to test either as I fully expect the evolution cost to drop to 25 when Togekiss comes out and walking my way up to 1k Togepi candy wasn't exactly easy.

EDIT: If it does reroll, you get the chance to hit the jackpot that is HP:Ground, which has amazing coverage against Togekiss's counters.

I know HP Ground is best, and I do agree it is the best agaisnt its coutners (far too many to list) but dark at least hits its best, metagross.

Heres to hoping I get ground or stays dark. Someone told me there was a hidden power fairy, but I dont think that exists

As an aside, Hidden Power is not a good fast move. It has 10 DPS and EPS (same as Cut and Water Gun), its duration makes it nearly impossible to dodge if that's your thing (it's mine), and if you roll a non-complementary type you're stuck with it (or Air Slash, which also isn't dodge friendly at 1.4 s). I don't know why Niantic would both saddle it with this AND not give it a Fairy move. My enthusiasm for Togekiss is severely dampened.

It's bad for attacking but very good for defending. It shares the #4 spot with Struggle Bug, below Volt Switch, Confusion and Waterfall/Smack Down.

It is a good defensive move. Unfortunately, with the recent glut of MMM, Togekiss will not be a good defender no matter what move it has. And I have so many defenders I don't need to spend resources powering up another one.

It hurts Togekiss yes, but the only thing any defender can do is force a switch. You stack Togekiss next to a normal type and something that resists Metagross, like a Metagross, and force the attacker to make choices. That's all you have ever been able to do on gym defense besides feeding gold berries to a Blissey.
