Hi-oh base stats nerfed

...so he’s likely right around the corner.

stamina: 193.

attack: 239.

defense: 274

And no new moves yet. So he will likely stay inferior to Moltres for most common uses.

Damn, so Ho-oh's new max CP is now 3889, still amazing. I guess that makes me feel a little bit better about Niantic nerfing Mewtwo, but I would've definitely preferred their original stats to remain.

In that case, do you think the next EX Raid will be Ho-oh instead of Mewtwo?

Purely a guess, but EX raids are currently non functioning and since Lugia was not EX I’m guessing he’ll be a normal raid. Or should be probably. But no one knows yet.

True. The only thing left to figure out is when Ho-oh will be officially released. I'm predicting sometime after Halloween, since Halloween's main focus should be the Ghost/Dark Pokemon.

Some time after is a good guess. But that could be 2 days, 2 weeks, or 2 months.

His most common use will be to have brave bird as his charge move, so comparing him to Moltres is not accurate. SW/BB is what I will aim for and he will be a great generalist.

I reference Moltres since there have been lots of old posts about “not powering Moltres to wait for Ho-oh.” It used to be much discussed.

I’m not sure how “great” a generalist he will be anyway. The age of specialists has dawned and I think most folks don’t much need to spend rare candies on generalists after they pass level 30. But maybe his moves will change or he will have some other use. Also SW, while a great quick move especially in regards to pure DPS, has a pretty poor EPS. This won’t help his case in comparison to other more common effective generalists that do not require rare candies to power or can be caught wild at higher levels with less dust expenditure.

The age of specialists has dawned != The age of generalists is over
We still see Dragonite and Mewtwo very useful in raids like the beasts.
I've talked about the three traits of a great generalist not a long ago and I think the first and foremost point, which is agreed by the many, is that the Pokemon need to have very high ATK, and I propose 250 as the cut-off for "very high". Post-nerfed Ho-Oh doesn't meet the criterion and thus, is not a great generalist. We'll see what he can do.

Sure, and while Dragonite is a special case with high DPS moves with stab, he is kind of the case in point for a generalist that, if you have one already (and I bielive most do or have many), it makes a Ho-Oh generalist kind of pointless.

As you say, the 250 cutoff isn’t a bad idea.

Where are you getting this information from? I will be disgusted if this is true

The data mine reports on TSR and an article on the front page of this site.

I want a full report from Niantic explaining why the hell they are giving Ho-oh a Nerf but not Lugia. They are counter part legendaries of the same legendary group, why does one get a nerf and not the other? Now that is being unfair.

With this along with the Latios/Latias gender mistakes they are just flat out embarrassing themselves at this point.

Data mining refers to something completely different than decompiling executable code. Misusing a term like this casts serious doubt over whatever you say next, even if you are neither the first nor the only person to make this mistake.

Am I the only one open to the idea that this round of ex raids could be Ho-Oh now?

Sure man, anything is possible.

But considering the number that have thus far received no EX for Mewtwo it would create a huge amount of rage so it would be a pretty stupid move....on second thought it is very possible.

I'm open to the idea, as well. If that is the case, I wonder if EX Raids will now be solely Ho-oh, or they'll be completely random between Mewtwo and Ho-oh.

I think it would be cool to have it be a surprise between the Mewtwo and Ho-Oh. However, until I heard of this nerf I thought it might be a 1% chance of an introduction to Dragonite raids. Way less than 1% now.

You never know. Then again, if Dragonite did become a raid boss, it would be spawning everywhere, and it'll be too easy to get, so I don't mind that Dragonite isn't a raid boss.

Another one bites the dust.

Another RIP to useful discussions about how to beat Ho-oh. Another missed chance for Niantic. What's about all the nerf anyway? Perhaps worth a new topic itself.

Trust me, man, I've opened a thread ranting about Mewtwo being nerfed a month ago. I still haven't got over it: (https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/q-a/mewtwo-nerf-0#comment-558431)

Now, Ho-oh was given the same treatment. It really is a shame... I'm gonna stop here before it's too late and I go into another rant XD
