Heracross question
Does Heracross have any use as a bug specialist? Is his bug quick move any good? How does he compare to scizor and pinser?
Answers
I don't own a Heracross, but I don't think a bug specialist version would be particularly useful.
Versus psychic types, his fighting half leaves him vulnerable to counter attack. Versus Grass, often they have a secondary type which makes the prospect non-ideal. Versus Dark, he may as well just use fighting moves, especially when facing Tyranitar.
Compared to Scizor and Pinsir he just falls short as a bug.
I consider both his quick and charge moves not as good compared to both of the other mons.
Bug as a move is SE against Psychic, grass, and dark.
Of those advantages he only resists grass and dark. There are better ground attackers and of dark mons to attack like Tyranitar fighting moves are the correct choice even when it is only a single weakness because CC is a better charge move than MH. He is hit with SE damage by psychic which is worse and Scizor double resists grass making him markedly better especially since a grass mon with Psychic moves will also be resisted like Eggys.
In regards to all around use, Scizor resists bug, grass X2, normal, fairy, poisonX2, steel, dragon, ice, and psychic. This gives him a huge range of resistances for outside of stab movesets for defenders he is attacking into. He is only weak to fire and while that is a double weakness that is a pretty narrow window of moves to sweat as an attacker.
Heracross isn't bad as a bug just outclassed greatly in the category with Scizor out there. He may find a niche in the future with that moveset though.
And Pinsir is a lesser version of Scizor in the current set up of bosses thanks to way less important resistances and more types of moves doing SE damage into him.
On my trip to TX I caught about 12. 3 were above Lv 20 but all had low IV's (the best was 67% 9att). The only one I caught with decent IV's was well below lv 20 and had struggle bug/earthquake. Given the ubiquity of Machamp, not worth the investment. I still run out the low IV versions in Ttar raids just for fun though.
I was only that far south for 36 hours, Brownsville has very few pokestops but the nearby rats and birds clog up just enough...I would race to clear out the one nearby pokestop and try to triangulate where a Heracross was...then more rats would pop up. Some of them appeared later at night, didn't want to alarm the people I was staying with. Eventually I'll get a quality one, maybe Thanksgiving visiting the in-laws. Makes some trips just better enough
Still waiting for the a safari zone to come to my city. Until then I'm stuck with alphabetti spaghetti (you get bored with the unown medal-objective after 2 days trust me) me mime and kangaroos. Hera is more of less the only regional mon I care about :(. But I'm a spoiled city player so shouldn't really complain.
