Helpful tips completing my Gen 1 non region exclusive pokedex.

Fellow trainers I need help completing my generation 1 pokedex. I've evolved all evolvable Pokemon and I'm stuck in no man's land in SF. I need 4 pokemon to complete 1st gen pokedex: Lapras, Aerodactyl, Hitmonchan, and Porygon. I've attempted to hatch as many 10 km eggs as possible, but no luck. Any tips in finding those 4 annoyingly rare Pokemon? Especially in Aerodactyl, Hitmonchan, and Porygon's situation what is there biome even? Lol

Buy endless amount of incubators and make sure all 9 eggs on your screen are incubating. I'm serious.

I won't spend money on incubators because 10km eggs for me are so rare that does not worth it. Just buy some incubators for the 10km you get with the money you have from gyms.

I found Porygon in my town near industrial areas, try to go to places where there are some factories, it normally spawn for me when in the game gets darker.

Aerodactyl is a pretty rare case but I found him near the beach, find places with a nice amount of rock types (geodude, rhyhorn etc), that are close to water.

Hitmonchan is just pure random at least for me, but the 2 times I have last seen him was close to small parks, find green areas on Google Maps, parks that are not too big and give a try.

For Lapras I have to say that he is the only mon I have never found in the wild, so this is the only one I think you gonna have to find it on eggs probably.

Here's the thing... the sooner you clear out your eggs, the more eggs you get, and the more 10k eggs will drop. I'm with you, I am loathe to spend real money on incubators, so I usually buy one with gym money whenever I get a 10k and only use it on the 10k's I get.

But it WILL get you more 10k eggs (as well as stardust and candies). It's just expensive, and there are ways to compete and earn gym coin without spending real cash. It's just going to take you A LOT longer.

It depends on you but for me spending 200-300€ on incubators just for 4 mons that you won't probably get is not an option. And now with the addition of the babies the chance of getting those mons is even lower, you will just end hatching a bunch of tentacool, goldeen, mankey, pinsir and other useless stuff.

You will eventually get them anyway, I prefer to have patience, and I am saying this because I have spent 50€ on incubators since game launched (last 10 on halloween) and for me it was not worth it, I got a Lapras yes, but even using real money it took me 6 months of playing and a lot of eggs to get him from a 10km egg.

The chances of getting the rare mons are around 2-3%, even less.

I found my only Lapras in the wild at the Berkeley marina... And I've known others who have found them there too, so there is hope at least. Just a quick drive over the bridge for you :)

Lapras - I've never seen one in the wild (hatched 2)
Aerodactyl - I've never seen in the wild (hatched one useless one)
Hitmonchan - most of mine have come from hatches, but I have seen them in parks and by gyms. Not common, but I have seen a few.
Porygon - although uncommon for me, I average one a month and find them on the street in town centres - basically anywhere you find Jigglypuffs there's a slim chance of a Porygon.

Incubators and eggs is likely to be your quickest option, but with the obvious cost implications. Other than that beyond patience the only thing I can think of is regularly checking nest reports on silphroad for surrounding towns.

Hitmonchan should be less rare than Hitmonlee, assuming that going to the place you find hitmonlees can also find a Hitmonchan.

Porygon is as rare as snorlax, try to hatch one if the nest is not near you.

Lapras is a tough situation, even you go to water pools, you may only be able to find Dragonairs. It is good to hatch one or find famous places (the nest, same for catching Dragonites) with water in your area.

Aerodactyl can be found in famous parking lots, or to hatch one which will be with a better IV.

For me Porygon whilst not common is far from 'rare', yet I've never seen a Snorlax in the wild. Beware of generalisations.

I've had the opposite experience. I think I've seen nine wild snorlaxes, and never a porygon.

It's definitely very dependent on location which is why giving advice about how 'common' or 'rare' something is can be very misleading.

I'd happily swap spawns with you, even with Porygon's evolution. :-)

Aerodactyl: never encountered it in the wild, still an open slot in my pokedex
Hitmonchan: never encountered it in the wild, got mine from an egg
Lapras: I got two in an area with many water types and another in a "dry" region. Unfortunately, all three are very low CP.
Porygon: They are quite common in the dedicated science area of our town. Maybe at university campus or in the industrial area?

I spend much time at the university and have never seen a wild Porygon. I hatched two of them on two subsequent days. I assume that they were both from the same Pokestop. maybe you should try to get eggs from as many different Pokestops as possible.

There is one method to get random pokemon independend off eggs: You have to find a region with no normal spawns, far from civilization, but, of course, with mobile data availability.
In this region you can use inscent and you will lure random pokemon. Optimally, you use a bike and travel not faster than 15 km/h, you will lure one pkm every minute, 30 maximal with one inscent.

Time and patience. I'm level 33 and have a full pokedex. I have about 850km walked towards my medal. I have traveled within a 250 mile radius of my house to get various pokemon that aren't around me. Go to facebook and search for pokemon groups in your area and ask there. That's what I did. People are almost always eager to help. Nobody knows your situation better than the fellow trainers in your area.

I have found everything in the wild. Aerodactyl was the hardest, and found him after I completed pokedex. At Daytona Beach...about 150 miles from my house (went there to catch my final pokemon the Tauros). I have caught 3 wild porygon, 2 wild lapras, maybe 8 Snorlax (missed about 5), and 1 wild chan.

They are out there...but you need to be willing to change it up and do some driving to places that have relatively frequent sightings. It took me two trips (130 miles roundtrip) to catch my first Snorlax and Lapras (both on same second trip a to Florida hotspot).

Suffice it to say I have never seen a lapras near my house. Ever. And if I didn't do some work on FB and then make the commitment to drive (I was there for 12 hours each time too) then I wouldn't have got them. Make the commitment in time and it will happen.

I always tell my friends who look for Lapras..."you'll not ski down a mountain in Florida...you need to drive somewhere with snow and mountains." Same can be said for some of the more obscure pokemon.

It's a cool feeling to complete that damned pokedex. I'm 48. My son long since stopped playing. Now it's my wife and I. She's ten away herself.

If you're not gonna go whole hog and dump money into incubators then you better dump money into the gas tank. ...Frankly, finding them in wild in new places around a few new pokemon players is a blast and more rewarding. The place I went to when I was looking for Snorlax and Lapras easily had 700-1000 people there. A beautiful park by the sea. At night it was a blast. Someone would scream, "LAPRAS!" and literraly hundreds of dark figures would go sprinting, speed-walking, jogging, and walking to this one spot. You knew where it was because a crowd was there staring into the beautiful blueish glow of cell phones. ...It was a fun time. Lots of great new people to meet.

That's how you'll find those buggers!

This is great advice. Just saying "go near water" is not gonna get you very far since you live in San Francisco :-)

Since there was a "Lapras event" in Japan, there may be another one somewhere in the US eventually, who knows. I have hatched all of the above and then have also found them randomly in the wild. I wasn't looking for them, I just played in popular areas known for variety of spawns and they just randomly appeared one day.

Lapras: in theory you could find it near water, but it's REALLY unlikely. I hatched my only one.

Aerodactyl: never seen it in the wild, I hatched one. I guess he'd be found in Rock/Ground biomes, but still very rare.

Hitmonchan: I saw it a few times on sightings, but again the only one I have came from an egg. Like Hitmonlee, I think you could find it in Rock/Ground biomes with a bit of luck.

Porygon: I hatched one and caught another near the headquarters of a big car company, which fits into the theory that he pretty much only spawns in industrial areas.

All in all, considering that I don't even spend any money on incubators (I hatched 188 eggs so far) and they managed to get me all of those four, I'd say your best bet would be to get some extra incubators going and hope for the best.

Lapras- never saw and never hatched but I know near lighthouses they can appear.
Aerodactyl- caught one near a famous park near river and sea.
Hitmonchan- never saw, hatched 1.
Porygon- I hatched mine but I saw once in the nearby in my faculty. Many of my friends caught there.
Hitmonlee- caught 2. One near a small park, the other I dont know.
But still missing Dragonite, Kabutops and 8 abra candys. Caught today my first jynx :)

I found a lot of Porygons in a residential area around this trainwreck of a building, the Neue Synagoge in Mainz. I think it is attracted by geotagged photos rather than a certain biome.
