have you ever spoken to your nemesis?

I guess most of us have a 'nemesis"- mine is a slightly lower level to me but very effective in taking down my hard work every night. I have never met him/her. As far I can see, he/she is not cheating in any way so I don't really have a problem with them.
I just wondered if anyone had any interesting stories about talking to their nemesis or avoiding them?
(I think the official advice is not to "confront" anyone- I'm not trying to cause any brawls here!)
I tend not to chat to anyone else I see that is playing PoGo, I guess you never know who wants to be left alone and it's probably best not to cause awkwardness.

Not really my nemesis but I once encountered a fellow human being who 'stole' my spot on a gym. He didn't do it intentionally though. It took me a while to heal my Pokémon so there. Long story short, he's my pal in real life now

Edit: I know you probably mean a player on another team. However; I live where gym turnovers happen like after 30 mins so I can't really tell who undo my hard work. Though I remember the same old IGNs who always pop up in my town.

I usually just pick a gym en route to school every day to take down. If someone else is taking it down with me, I usually approach said person/or get approached by if it is fairly obvious who is taking it down with me. If we are the same team I put legit pokemon to 'defend' it. Otherwise, we agree on stuff like 'I will put a fish on it, I'll collect the coins first' so it makes it easier for us to collect coins and be less awkward.

I have seen other legal players taking gyms away from me when I just took them yes, I won't say I have a nemesis but probably some of them (3 are coming to my mind), I have not say anything to them while I see them playing also to avoid disturbing them. I just keep with my route, skip that gym, go fast to the next one and come back as soon as they leave to retake it and take my coins, I normally get 4-7 gyms per day but some days they take down my gyms fast and can only get 2-3.

I have had my "nemesis" park in front of my car with his brights on. Snipe the gym many many times right in front of me. I've taken out his mons as soon as he puts them in and watched him punch his steering wheel.
We've had waiting games where I will put the seat back and light a smoke and kill the engine, and watch him speed off.

But that's as close to meeting him as I've come. For such a friendly screen name he has, he is not a friendly player. Hoggiebunz and mshoggiebunz. (He uses 2 phones)

If he wasn't rude I would've let him have it long ago.

I finally met "BabyOwensMama" walking her dog and trying to re-take a valuable gym (way off the beaten path, at a park can only get to by walking). We actually had a nice chat, I let her keep the gym for a day, and never would have met her otherwise. That was a few levels ago for me, I don't see her name around much anymore since no support for her team Yellow around here, and that gym has reverted to Mystic where it has been a reliable coin generator for me for over a month!

A few days ago I was doing my daily gyms routine and 2 gyms away from 6 I encoutered a gym battle. It was obvious who they were so I asked if they were attacking or prestiging. One guy said he was attacking and we chat a little and he said he would wait for me to take over both gyms and then he would take over after I collect.

One of my children is 15. Him and his friends during summer used to go out sometimes and drive around and play.

Turns out the friend group wasn't all on the same team. (the issue with Pokemon Go coming out during Summer Vacation at school). and since back then all the Gyms were level 10 static (literally over a 5 mile stretch down one road, 5 reds, then 4 blues all level 10) they must have been knocking down to level 9, and powering back to level 10 together. Since they were all young/low level they'd just end up on bottom.

I finally realized what they were doing when I was powering up a Gym from level 9 to 10. Another player came in and started powering it up right next to me when I was at 46000. I was like are you really going to try sniping my spot. (back when we could only use 1 pokemon)

He replied he was looking for my son's screen name. And I was like why? He's told me about the power down and power up going on, and said he made it his "Mission" to knock my son out of every gym.

Now, I know he was powering up and solo in his car.
So Logic Dictates that he had 2 accounts of different color. That is the only way he could knock my son out and power up a gym of the same color..

He got pissy and said "well at least I make the Gym Stronger and replace stronger" I replied you realize your 40+ years old, searching for 15 year old. Your breaking the Game Rules, to punish him playing with his friends cause I know he doesnt have 2 accounts.

((During this exchange he also bragged he was in 40+ Gyms because many of his were in the "Hood" where he worked and no one went.))

He got pissy when I said "Whatever man, I'll let my son know thats not cool, but your the one breaking the rules in game and having a Vendetta against a teenager not even half your age"

He's probably still out there targetting my son, and heck me since it wouldn't have been hard to tell what new pokemon I put in that Gym when I finished making it 10.

I do have a Nemesis with whom I play tug-of-war for gyms in my neighborhood (I build them up, he takes them down and vice-versa). We've exchanged messages on Reddit and I'd love to run into him, but it hasn't happened yet.

Generally, remember that this is a game, played for entertainment. You'll find folks who like to chat and folks who don't. Personally, I find it always fun to chat with players I run into, regardless of what team they are on. It's fun to see who / how people play the game and how people find enjoyment from it (everyone's story seems to be a little different).

But I have no patience for cheaters or assholes, so if I have the chance to confront someone, I will be more than happy to do it :-)

Yes, I run into red team occasionally. One day I let this guy on red team level up his gym all day, then came back at midnight to take the gym.

Partway through beating the gym, the red team guy biked up to the gym, looking flustered. He saw me and came over to chat. "Are you going to beat the gym?" I replied "umm yes". He was like "fine then, I will go beat the other gym you took." I was like "alright, nice to meet you".

The guy was friendly enough, but it was just super super weird. Who wants to stare into someone's eyes while undoing a whole day of their work in 10 minutes.

I only regret not telling him that he would have an easier time if he tried to take something in blue team's area.

On nodding terms with one couple on Valor, but not really spoken. Met another couple on Saturday (also Valor) taking out the Snorlax I'd put in 30 mins beforehand - said hi and introduced myself and left them to it. I was kind enough to give them half hour to take another gym and claim their coins, before knocking them both out again.

I wouldn't call her my nemesis, but I did once meet a woman who is team Instinct and we've battled in gyms a few times. We both realised we had battled a few times before and has continued doing that. I've just met her once, but I always see her Pokemon in the gyms.
She's a much higher level then I am (I'm 30, she's atleast 32 or 33 I think) and has way more poweful Pokemon (as well as a full Pokedex).

I only have a few decent Rhydons and Jolteons, but she has like Lapras, Dragonite and Snorlax at around 3000cp.

Apparently she works at a place that has loads of Pokemon spawning and gyms and stops.
Life just isn't fair... ;)

I don't know why, but a lot of the people I see playing seem socially awkward...

Maybe it's the socially inept internet/digital generation that mostly talk to people online/etc...

I haven't really met anyone nice/super cool honestly, but have seen some sketchy folks playing that my wife would be scared to ever talk to (her words.

I think most people don't seem to want to be disturbed honestly so I tend to ignore/move on when I see others playing.

This is why I don't think this game is actually that social at all...and could be dangerous also from some threads I read.

Maybe it's better in college towns where everyone is a young student wanting to be social.

My nemesis are 12y old kids, im 30 myself.
I greet them if i see them in shops and i talk to them if we are playing pokemon in same area.
Few times we played together, but its akward, cus im 30y old and first there might be only 2 kids around me and soon there will be big bunch of em, cus other kids start follow xD

Anyways, then there adult brothers (my nemesis also) who play this game with car and are soon higher level than me, cus i cant play this game during winter and they can.
I talk with them sometimes and also i greet them in shops and sometimes they also come to speak to me.
We just speak general pokemon stuff.
Once they asked if i wanna join them, but i dont wanna,
cus i think this game wasnt meant to be played with cars.
So its kind of cheating, but not cheating xD
Cars need gas and gas is not free, so i consider these brothers "credit card warriors" xD
Thou if i would have car, i would also use it to play, so im happy i dont have one xD

Like others, my experience with other opposite teams in Houston, Texas has been friendly and we help each other get coins. We also share information on where there are good locations for Poke Stops. Sat. I pulled up to a Gym and another car came beside me. The Gym was a level 2. The trainer came over to my car and ask if I would let her get her coin first, she had to get to work. She took the Gym and left a Pidgey for me.... As she left she said she was Mystic. I'm Instinct... The true Pokémon attitude exists... A fun game.

There are a couple gyms near my work and I always try to control at least one. There is usually heavy turnover on these gyms multiple times a day. But I seem to successfully control at least one for most of the day. Then at lunch I go take the others and collect my coins.

One day I was out there battling while another guy walked over and I said you aren't going to let me keep this gym are you? He said I will give you 10 minutes to go get another gym. He kept his word and I was able to go get the others and collect my coins before he took them back.

As for my "home" gym I definitely have a BIG nemesis. We have passed each other a TON and are always flipping the gym back and forth. It usually ends up being a game of "show off your pokemon to see if the other person has it". I've never spoken with him but I think I might stop some time and chat. He has quite the collection of high level pokemon going.

If only we were the same team... that would constantly be a level 10 gym that never changes as both of us are into powering up gyms.

Oh! Just remembered a weird experience with blue team as well.

My husband I went to beat blue teams level ten gym and in the middle of our battle, this little kid ran up beside us with his phone.

My husband tried to say hi to him, but the kid stood there grunting and growling and looking super grumpy. This little kid was muttering to himself and trying to prestige the gym with a nidoran.
