Hariyama or Machamp vs Tyranitar?

My current goal in PoGo is to two-man Tyranitar with a buddy. I'm lacking Machamp candy to get my 4th Machamp to lvl 30 (so we can do it with Cloudy Weather), but I have a third Hariyama with 15 attack ready at lvl 31. Is a 3/3 split in Machamps/Hariyamas equally viable, or is the 4th Machamp a must?

If all three Hariyamas are powered up to that final breakpoint (level 31 for 15 attack), and the Machamps are level 30 with 10 attack or greater, you should be able to do 50% of the necessary damage.

I'm assuming all six have C/DP. Close combat is significantly worse.

All of them have 15 attack, and all of them have Counter/Dynamic Punch. 2 Hariyamas are lvl 35 right now, the last being 31. Gamepress breakpoint calculator says the final breakpoint for Hariyama is 34.5 and I plan to get the last Hariyama to 35 too before I try it.

UPDATE: I actually just successfully did this today, for the first time. I'd like to say I did it with my daughter, but the reality is that my wife wouldn't let my daughter out of her chores to do the raid, so I took her phone and did it myself with the two phones.

Both of our teams have three Machamps, and three Hariyamas.

Team 1 (mine):
2710 Machamp L36 (15A) C/DP
2754 Machamp L37 (14A) C/DP
2393 Machamp L30 (15A) C/DP
2550 Hariyama L35 (15A) C/DP
2501 Hariyama L35 (14A) C/DP
2557 Hariyama L35 (14A) C/DP

Team 2 (daughter's):
2696 Machamp L35.5 (15A) C/DP
2414 Machamp L30 (13A) C/DP
2378 Machamp L29 (15A) C/DP
2452 Hariyama L33 (12A) C/DP
2393 Hariyama L31 (15A) C/DP
2340 Hariyama L31 (15A) C/CC

Note that my daughter's top Machamp is one-half level short of its final breakpoint, due to running out of Machop candies. :(

I was holding the two phones in my left hand, and tapping the two circles with my right index & ring fingers.

The boss had fire blast for a charge move, and I'm not sure whether the quick move was bite or iron tail. It took three tries. The first try was with no dodging, and both teams were wiped out. Although they were able to re-enter, and it was a close fight, I/we timed out. On the second attempt, I tried swiping to dodge with both phones simultaneously, and that did not work well. Although I survived slightly longer, the dodging was inefficient, and a lot of DPS was squandered.

On the third (successful) attempt, I concentrated on dodging fire blast only for the first two Machamps on my account, and didn't dodge at all on my daughter's phone. I must have gotten lucky with the timing of the boss's charge moves, because both accounts barely survived to the end, and the boss was knocked out with about nine seconds remaining.

With my daughter's top Machamp powered up one more half-level to the final breakpoint, I think we'll have more of a cushion. Also, she needs one more C/DP to replace that CC Hariyama, and then I think we will be able to do it consistently against any moveset.

Also, one person on two phones is not the most efficient, so it should be easier when the two of us do it together. It's difficult to dodge on two phones at once, or to dodge on one phone while still tapping on the other.

I have a somewhat related question. If my top 3 machamps are (theoretically) at 35, 35, and 31 all with C/DP would it be possible to duo in cloudy weather while rejoining with those 3 after they faint? Someday I'll have more machop candies...

Hmm, Maybe. I think you could probably do it if you rejoin quickly with max revives, except you want those first two 'Champs to hit their final breakpoint at level 36 (for 15 attack IV, progressively higher level for lower attack IV). Obviously, the other player needs an equally strong team.

Do some Machamp solo raids, and catch him with a pinap, and those candies will add up fast (though they get spent just as fast at those higher levels).

I do the best I can with that. I don't see that many machamp raids in my town (only 9 gyms). Also, isn't the 36 breakpoint for neutral weather? I haven't investigated breakpoints very closely for cloudy weather.

Edit: turns out we're both right. Level 36 seems to be the breakpoint for both neutral weather and cloudy weather (a coincidence, I assume)
