Gym stagnation and team distribution

I live in a city with 850k inhabitants, where gyms used to change teams at least once an hour. Some of the gyms in industrial/outskirts areas have turned stagnant after prestiging was increased again and winter rolled in. This has allowed me to keep anywhere between 6-14 gyms at any time during the last few months.

Today, my 4th highest CP mon, a 2921cp Dragonite got kicked off the bottom of a local gym. Most of the trainers in the gym are lvl 32-37 and the gym now consists of 7x Dragonite, 2x Snorlax and 1 Gyarados. This has happened to several gyms in my area lately, while the majority still change teams every few hours. Gyms that stay up for 3 weeks+ tend to gain a floor at 2800cp+ after some time.

Even though Mystic used to dominate most of the city back when there were more players around, all three teams are now well represented and seem to have their lvl 10 towers spread out in various areas of the city, which is nice. As long as my team gets to keep some gyms, I don't mind leaving other teams gyms alone. What's the gym situation like in your area?

Mine sound similar to yours but not nearly as big of a city. Valor used to run the show in the south end of our city and they owned every gym for the first few months. Even back with the old 1 'mon prestiging they owned everything.

Then Instinct started to slowly take over and pushed Red back a lot. It wasn't until the last month or so that Mystic (my team) finally started to make a push. Seems a lot of the newer players picked Mystic and we are now able to hold 5-10 gyms for at least a day or two before they get knocked down.

It seems Instinct is probably the most active with Mystic second. Yellow and Blue have split the south end in half and each have about 7-10 gyms each and for the most part we let each other have the gyms for a few days.

Red has been forced to move a bit further north and they seem to be content there for now.

there are spots around my city where its certain teams, and then highly volatile areas. I'd say its 40% mystic and valor and 20% instinct. I've recently jumped into some taller gyms, so its possible if you jump in in the areas where your team is focused, but anywhere else kind of sucks.

Most players are level 27-30. Gyms are 90% mystic and 10% valor. Haven't seen instinct in a few weeks. Most gyms are lvl 3-5.

Mystic players are eager to battle so enemy gyms don't last long at all. Being a mystic member it's frustrating not being able to attack gyms lately.

There are far too many gyms in the area for the player base which doesn't seem to be the case with other players on the q&a. It has its downsides but on the bright side there is no CP struggle or second account issue.

Just as an example, my town has a population of 30k. The Christian churches alone account for 22 gyms, then liquor stores, memorials, parks, randoms. Gyms are absolutely everywhere......Though only a handful of sparsely spread out stops.

First it was a mystic domination then instict after the first prestige change then10 level towers from valor after second prestige change till now.
Holding from 8 to 13 gyms as a valor member.

The town I work in has, I think, 11 gyms. In the beginning, everything was pretty well contested between the three teams. They'd hold for a few days, allow you to prestige, and then they'd be taken back. Really was a nice balance of time held vs. stagnation.

But everything changed when the fire nation attacked.

After the first gym mechanic change, Instinct pretty much dropped out. I don't think their presence here was very strong in the first place, and the prestige change must've hit them pretty hard. Gyms stagnated quickly into high level Mystic or Valor, and every 4 or 5 days, Valor would take our gyms over, but you could tell it was a battle of attrition that Mystic was winning. That increased with the most recent change, and as of a few weeks ago, the whole town has been dominated by Mystic. I think either we have spoofers or players shifted teams because all of a sudden there were 7-8 new names I had never seen before and Mystic gyms were hitting level 10 where before we never went above 7 (there were some that were 8 or 9 but they'd stay for a week with an open slot, so I don't think we had the players). Every week or two, a gym will go down, but it's back up within a day or two. Gets you coins and dust, but it's pretty boring.

Being on team Mystic is like playing on easy mode here in Seattle. probably 80% of the gyms are mystic and never change.

city of 150,000 and total domination by Mystic, to the point where it is annoying as an Instinct. 70% of the gyms are level 10 blue, the other 30% churn at lower levels but still tend to be blue. Major flaw, as of course blue gets stronger and stronger since they are getting multiple free incubators and eggs every week from their steady gym cash flow. A couple times a week I have the time to take down a 10 by myself, be nice if the player distribution was just remotely closer to even

My town and the town next is instinct 80+% all level 8-10 gyms. My brother and I have held 10 gyms everyday for a few months. If I see some activity I drive out and retake within the hour. Some other real active instinct players doing the same thing.

Pretty much pushed out the mystic players that had a daily gym routine. It seems like the majority of people stopped playing. The gym next to my house is level 10 with 2 spots open. Has been untouched like that all week.

My city is 350k inhabitants. I don't play as much now as to know the whole city situation. In my area, Instinct spoofers have pushed away most mystic and valor players. At the very beginning it seemed like mystic was the predominant faction but after a couple of months it was quite well balanced. Currently instinct rules, mainly because of the huge number of spoofers in their lines. Luckily there are still a few real instinct player who actually walk to take down your gym

The town I live in (7k population) 4 gyms only has about 6-10 people that are gym active. I'm on mystic, at level 32, there is another mystic player that I sometimes see around level 27-28, everyone else is Instinct between level 25-28. 80% of the time the gyms are held by Instinct, I try to take down the gym by my house everyday and 2 of the other 3 once or twice a week, but it's impossible to hold anything for long with so few players. There are probably another dozen or so people that will throw a mon in an open spot but never attack gyms or prestige gyms so you rarely see them. The town where I work has 15k people, for a while mystic dominated, now Instinct has about has 65% of gyms, Mystic has 25% and Valor has 10%. Only one or two of the dozen or so gyms usually stays with one team for more than a few days though. I also play alot in a town of 30k people between home and work. There it's like 80% Mystic, 20% Instinct, with an occasional Valor gym popping up. I'd say 80% of those gyms change hands at least once a week, some daily of course. Though there is one gym I've had since late July / Early August.

Most of the gyms in my area flip between Valor and Mystic on a daily basis. Instinct representation is practically nonexistent.

Mystic and Valor are both pretty well represented in my area.
I see fewer and fewer Instinct gyms, and I always leave them alone.
I'm happy to say that Valor players (my team) in my town all seem to play ethically, and are considerate of others.
There are 2 Valor gyms I can see from home that have very weak Pokémon at the bottom, a 15xx Pinsir in one and a 5xx Rhyhorn (yes, RhyHORN, not Rhydon) in the other, but they've remained there for over a week.
That would NOT happen in a Mystic gym in this town.
Their gyms always succumb to creeping CP.
