Gym rebalance question
So just out of curiosity....if gyms ever get rebalanced to a system were a high defense stat matters more than CP, which Mons become more usable as defenders if they go to one name per gym.
Answers
If the defensive stat alone acted as CP does only Omastar would be in gyms of the ones you listed. Just like now folks would put in whatever is guaranteed to not be at the bottom, or the top 9. The tenth place would be whatever but hopefully it would be used for Blissey. However she would be the first out and then you could take down the rest of the gym with one Vape and one Exeggutor
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this but Slowbro, Poliwrath and Umbreon all have highest defense
In order by attack/defense/stamina it's:
177/194/190 for Slowbro
182/187/180 for Poliwrath
And 126/250/190 for Umbreon
Plus, Omastar has a double weakness. The above don't. And like OP said, CP won't matter
Oh I agree. The op specifically asks about a system where ranking was "rebalanced to a system were a high defense stat matters more than CP". Not a new CP calculation. Not usability or how good they are. Maybe that's not what he meant but it's exactly what he typed. My list of mons below would be the new top defenders that you would see under the OPs parameters. I think we can all agree that would not work.
It might be fun to have 2 different CPs: attacking and defending. Add it stands now, CP more heavily weighs a pokemon's attack stat. If you swap defense, you get a new ranking of "Defensive CP". The mons listed above (Cloyster, Steelix, Scarmory, Umbreon, etc.) would be the new defenders, but the attackers would be the same. Blissey and Snorlax would still be excellent defenders, but Gyarados and Dragonite would be knocked down a couple pegs.
I really think all these bandaids won't do a thing for diversity or stagnation in gyms.
People don't attack gyms because it's boring, a waste of time, resources and not really fun...
Yes, there will be someone here who LOVES to attack gyms and think it's the greatest thing, but compared to many games, it's a boring waste of 30-60 minutes tapping your screen and sliding every 2 seconds...It takes little to no skill and is merely a measure to see who can waste who's time the most...
For the gym rewamp to be successful, I really think ALL gym mechanics have to change from rankings, moves used, abilities, status effects, benefits for team members to hold the gym, no "lame" crap like shown in the Trainer Tips video where when you get say 4+ (or 16 in their case) attackers against one defender (so out of the spirit of the Pokemon shows there having 16 gang up on 1), it's a brainless tap for 4 seconds before the next Pokemon.
There should also be opportunity to get coins/dust hopefully for every team or reasons to interact with gyms if you are a minority team. You pretty much have to throw out everything that is about gyms now and design it from scratch.
