Gyarados twister best defensive moves

Since the cp update gyarados has become the most common pokemon in gyms ( my experience ). When I'm taking down a gym i dodge the first two attacks and the charge moves. I have no problem at dodging the charge moves except , twister. In the end twister does more damage to me than the other charge moves.

Same can be said about dragonite with dragon claw on defense.

Let me know what your experience is.

Twister is extremely difficult to dodge. I'm always surprised at how disappointed people are in getting twister.

Because Twister is the worst charge Gyarados move, period. It is very easy to get to that point knowing that Gyarados is a very bad defender (like Rhydon is for example), with the recent buff of Jolteon (Eevee are soo easy to get), the holiday Pikachu event (very easy to get 2-3 Raichus now) and his double electric weakness makes it an horrible defender.

Gyarados is an attacker and you want it to have Hydro Pump or Dragon Pulse, but never twister. Just my opinion, for me I prefer it this way, my gym runs are going so easy and fast since the last cp changes, everyone stopped powering up their poliwraths, slowbros and exeggutors and now they put in gyms rhydons and gyarados of 2800 CP, I melt them really fast, even my 1.5k Raichu can destroy 2 gyarados in a row, and with a Vaporeon you can take 3/4 Rhydons in a row, those defenders make attackers don't waste almost time/resources.

My advice is if you get them at high CP just put them in gyms if you want, but I won't waste dust on a defensive Gyarados/Rhydon.

Any pokemon with double weakness shouldn't be a Tier 2 or higher in the defenders Tier list.

Gyarados regardless of the moveset is always a bad defender but, twister is the most annoying in my opinion.

I wish cp wasn’t the factor in gym placement.

Agreed. I just posted the same thing yesterday in a Gyarados thread. And he'll just spam you with Twisters if you hit him hard enough.

Do you dodge the quick moves? If you get in a rhythm of attacking a couple times, pausing to wait for the yellow flash, and dodging, then you automatically will dodge Twister and Dragon Claw at the same time that you dodge the quick moves.

I only dodge the first two attacks and the charge moves. I know dodging everything is better but , it also costs more time. if i have to choose between time and position usage , i choose time.

If you're using Dragonite with DB/DC, you can get into a rhythm of 1x (sometimes 2x) DB at the beginning of the fight, dodge the first two, then 3x DB, dodge, 3x DB, dodge, obviously using DC when it's charged --> dodging every move you can still tear through Gyarados so fast.

Twister is actually just as easy as HP or anything else to dodge. Dragon Pulse is the most damaging charge move in this situation for defense.

This strategy also works for fast charge moves like Bite, Water Gun, etc.

Like Rhydon, Gyarados is a much better attacker than defender. Twister is atrocious on offense, to the point that it's better not to use the charge move.

But with the high CP, people will use Gyarados as a defender to sneak them in the back of gyms. I agree that Twister is an annoying charge move. It doesn't make Gyarados a good defender, but makes it a little more annoying. I've converted my 2 Twister Gyarados to pure defenders.

The terrible thing about Twister is that it totally invalidates Gyarados as an attacker, which is the part he really excels at. However, I agree with the fact that it's probably the best defensive charge move of the three - still not enough to make him a good defender, but for that he mostly relies on high CP anyway.

With that said, I'm about to evolve my first Gyarados ever, so pray for me.

Don't even bother dodging twister. I would say DP is better on defence.

Damage from Twister is not that high tough.

Sadly people put Gyarados in gyms for high CP, but they overall weaken the gym...it is a terrible defender. I've never put it in Gym.

Istinct Team guys: please use other defenders, fellas.
Read and Blue: put your Gyarados in gyms ;)

Just took out a Gyarados with Twister and the thing that makes it annoying is that it hits you BEFORE the "Twister" word pops up. You would generally have to dodge the yellow, then the Twister word pops up already after the fact...

This is why it's annoying, but like it was mentioned, you hit it hard enough with Jolteon and pretty much every attack is twister so you can just dodge all the yellow flashes and you'd be ok...

Sometimes, I just attack right through it all to be faster though since I value time > potions also...

Magneton passes this problem easily. I only use it to take out Gyarados. For its steel typing resists both dragon specials, bite, and hydro pump is easy to dodge.Spark and Discharge destroy the poor serpent.

Do you guys have nothing better to do with your life than standing in the freezing cold and dodge Twister. It's a waste of time, power a Jolteon up to the max and when you notice some n00b dumped a Gyarados with Twister in a gym just keep hitting him.

Twister is only great against prestiging mons because of their low HP but a fully powered up attacking Jolteon doesn't care.

I personally tranfered my Gyarados with Twister. It's never going to have any use for me, so I took the candy and ran.
