Groudons actual use

I wondered about the versatility of Groudon. Originally I wanted to power one up, but Im not sure about it anymore, as I dont exactly see, where it gives me a game changing advantage. For gym battles I have 2 maxed Ttars, 1 maxed Ray, 1 max Mewtwo, a few L30-35 Champs and Dnites, and a max Raikou, which basically covers up anything I am facing with super effective damage anyway. Aside of that, there are very few legendary raids in the future, where I see Groudon as a premier counter, even in later gens. Its suboptimal moveset also concerns me, as the best moves lack synergy and he only has 1 bar chargers, which I think are way worse than 2 bar moves. Can anyone widen my view and show me ways to properly use a Groudon?

Groudon is essential for soloing Jolteon, very useful for soloing Gengar and very future-proof. Are future generations that lacking in Electric-type legendaries and good defenders?

First of all MS/EQ is his best moveset so that does have synergy, especially in Sunny/Clear weather

Look beyond Legendary raids. He's also great against anything with Poison, Steel, Fire, Electric and Rock typing as long as they dont have a Flying subtyping which is currently Aggron, Gengar, Golem and Jolteon. Raikou and Entei will return at some point for a shiny tour the same way Lugia has.

Against everything neutral or weak to both (like rock), MS/SoB is a better moveset, so I don't think the question of best moveset is that clear cut.

I, too, find both movesets (M/EQ, M/SB) very useful and am therefore keeping all 11 of mine, most weather boosted, although I only powered up my best. I use them a lot.

That's fair. I've seen lots of situations where his Solar Beam and Dragon Tail could be useful. Even MS/Fire Blast would do well against Steel types. This just reinforces how great Groudon is but I do think his best role is being the best pure Ground type because Rhydon is too slow

Indeed. The main issue is how weak EQ is, making non-STAB Solar Beam hit harder if neither one has any additional modifiers. Earthquake is a highly damaging move in the main games and it deserves a major buff. Really holding my fingers crossed for at least a move rebalance if we don't get a major combat rework.
