Got 84% nidoking with poison jab/earthquake

He is a cp 1336 (2500 dust) that came from an egg originally. I am wondering, is he worth using at all? I got he best moveset but he only has max cp of 2386, pretty low. Before a lot of pokemon got buffed nidoking was pretty decent, just not sure anymore.

I personally won't, since I value Nidoqueens more. I don't even capture the males anymore, since females end-up with better CP in my experience.

My Nidoking is nearly identical (1337 CP at level 20, same moves) and I don't think I've ever used him. I can't think of any situation where he would be the best option.

Too many weaknesses for defense. And for attacking, he doesn't have a favorable matchup against any common defenders. Good against fairies, but I never see those in gyms.

I have a 100% Nidoking with the same "best" moveset sitting at level 20. I might eventually power him up, but if gen2 is in fact coming soon, that will push back all of my vanity power ups like this.

I tend to use mine for prestiging in the odd circumstances where they make sense - sadly both of the Nido royalty suffer from better options in most circumstances - they're not bad, but there's normally a better option.

I have a couple of nidokings similar to that CP range with slightly higher IVs that I keep a around to plug into gyms that I don't plan on holding for long or rarely to attack. Definitely not for powering up.

I'd keep him for prestiging. Like what Faversham mentioned, he (and she) doesn't really match up well with any other mon (maybe the fairies). But I find myself using it for prestiging for some variety.

Good to have a bunch of options between 1k and 1.5k.
