Golem has been a rock star during legendary raids over the last couple months. Will he remain useful for Gen 3 and beyond? I caught a Level 18 98% Geodude last night and I'm wondering whether he is worth the dust investment to bring him to level 30 or beyond. I have ~275 Geodude candies and ~450,000 dust.

My current Golem roster consists of 6 over CP2000, the two best being Level 33 and Level 34, each with 87% IV and 15 attack.

Right now Golem is the undisputed king of Rock. But if Tyranitar or Rhydon get a rock type quick move they might take the throne.

And there is also Armaldo in Gen 3 which has 222 base attack stat (golem has 211 base attack). If Armaldo get the same rock moves as Golem he might take the throne DPS wise but Armaldo has significantly less bulk.

So to anwser your question, yes probably still useful although it might lose the spot as "best" rock attacker

Tyranitar wont get a fast move and i m pretty sure rhydon too. I feel same for aggron.
I think golem is safe for a long time.

Depends on movesets for Aggron, Armaldo, and Regirock.

Armaldo will have a little higher attack than Golem, but lower defense. Whereas Aggron and Regirock will have lower attack but higher defense.

With 6 in your lineup already (I assume 6 with double rocknow moves), then I would NOT use the dust on another golem right now. See what happens with the update and new additions, as described in other answers. Also, with a big new generation (Gen 3 is large) dust is valuable.

Four are double rock:

2 Rock Throw/Rock Blast (Level 26 and 33)
2 Rock Throw/Stone Edge (Level 29 and 34)
2 Mud Slap/Stone Edge (Level 29.5 and 30)

Only the level 33 and 34 are top tier (87%+).

No, i don't think it's worth the investment.
Not so much because there are better fighters in his branch just around the corner, this may or may not be.
No, it's mostly because your line up looks fine as it is.
Even if he gets beaten by some percent as the leading rock-type attacker. If that should happen you can still use them to fill up your new improving team.

I caught a nice 94% Geodude while on vacation in Europe, and evolved it to Golem, getting Rock Throw/Earthquake. Was going to CTM it and power it up, when I realized that gen3 might make it a bad investment in stardust. I also have 3 other Golems with strong attack stats at levels 35, 33, and 33, all RT/SE, so the need wasn't pressing.

So I'd wait do do anything else with it, and see how Gen3 shakes out vis a vis rock. We may not get the whole picture with the first wave of the release, but I wouldn't want to invest in it now to have it become a second tier mon in a week.
