Is this a glitch?

Recently I've noticed that if I want to take down a viral gym I have to go through all six pokémon round after round. If I defeat them one by one I will got kicked out of the gym (error 29) and have to wait for 10 minutes until I can start a new battle. Is it a glitch or it is intended to be this way in the latest update?

It is a common issue, however, it may have been coded as an anti-shaving measure. If it is a glitch...unknown.

I've never had this issue before.

I experienced this a lot early on after the gym change. (Don't know the error code, and didn't previously have a code.) When you knock a defender out of the gym, continue the fight. Leaving after knocking out a defender seems to be the main problem.

I've suffered from this error.
I've googled it few days ago and found that this error appears this way:
1. Pokemon #N defeated, got 0 cp motivation and got kicked out
2. _Before_ battle with pokemon #N+1 trainer press "leave" (instead of battle, on screen with 10 seconds timer)

Since then I avoid this pattern and never got this error again.
Even so I have not tried to force this error on purpose I'm almost sure it's the case.

The thing is I used to defeat gym defenders one by one since I don't like to choose counter attackers for each defender before each battle, and never had any issue with this way of taking down gym until 2 days ago.
