Gen3 legendaries

First of all I decided to put all my rare candy into Groudon and Kyogre since I lost the hope to ever get a Mewto. Yesterday I finally got the last 6 rare candy (out of 5 rayquaza raids...) to finally being able to push my second 98% Groudon to 3573 CP (first 100% maxed). Unfortunately I wasn't that lucky with Kyogre. I have pushed my best (15/12/14) to 3550 CP, being my best water attacker. I also have two Gyarados and 3 Vaporeon (one being 11 attack, so to replace that one in my water team of six I could use another one. My next best Kyogre are a 13/15/14 and a 13/13/15. I would really like to push my first Kyogre even further to around 3800 CP, but then to power up a second one that would require me around 140 more rare candy for Kyogre alone.

The problem is that yesterday while doing those 5 raids of course one of those Rayquaza was a 98%. Previously my best was ny far a 96%. So now I have two Rayquaza worth investing in. Having a 96% legendary laying around seems a waste to me...originally the plan was to push one Ray to 3200 CP with flying moves to lead my flying team consisting of 4 DT/H Dragonite and a Lugia so far. The point is that I also have 6 Dragonite with Dragon moves (two of them with legacy DB/OR and DB/DP). So there is not really a need for a Dragon Ray or would you power it up to replace the DB/DP Dragonite? I have 72 Ray candy so far. Where yould you allocate your rare candy? I am still waiting on a double candy event to finally send all legendaries since Raikou!!! to the professor...Thanks guys!

Remember that Kyogre outclasses other water mons already at level 30 which doesn't take that much candy. At the moment it isn't that necessary to have lots of good water attackers though, so I would just hold onto them.

As for Ray, with dragon moves it is an upgrade over Dragonite but not that big of a one. Then again, what do you need the flying moves Ray for either?

Verdict: Hold your rare candy. Unless you are extremely pressed for bag space, there isn't any reason to commit now when you don't know which one you'll need first.

Thanks for the reply. The question is what I should hold rare candy for? The regis? The Latis...they are all weak except for one of the Dragons if it really gets DC...so for this time there won't be a need for rare candy. Mewto is out for me, so there won't be better options than the best ground and water attackers to ever be in the game. My goal is to have a team of six of every type, so a flying Rayquaza is an absolute must atm and with Dragons pretty much setup this is just more useful to me. I will probaly push my best Kyogre to 3800 CP first and then go with the flying Ray, then dragon Ray both to 3200 and then make up my mind if 13/15/14 Kyogre is worth it for another 140 rare candy. I probably will, did the same with a 13/15/15 Raikou^^

It really depends what you need/want.
- I like my DB/DC Dragonite for gyms after the first motivation round or if there's no Chansey/Blissey. Latios will function the same but is slightly better. If you don't have a DB/DC Dragonite, you may want to have such a Latios.
- Rayquaza is better than Dragonite, but if you have multiple high lvl Dragonite it may not be worth investing in.
- Kyogre and Groudon are the best of their types but won't see much use except for Regirock
- Entei/Moltres are the best for Regice and Registeel (together with Machamp)
- Raikou/Zapdos are the best Electric types but don't see much use now that Kyogre is gone.
- Lugia/Ho-Oh are not worth it in my opinion as they only see use in Machamp raids and not even there are they needed.

I'd say don't hold the rare candies (atleast not more than 250 for that early potential 100% catch) but convert them to candies for legendaries. You don't necessarily have to power-up those legendaries, but at least your bag isn't filled with rare candy either.

And where do you allocate your rare candy? Atm your opinion seems to be that you don't need anything. You are right there to a certain extent, that's why I set my goal to have a team of six of every type. Even for Rayquaza I invested a little into my ice types and now almost get 2-3 damage balls all the time. That's really what the game is all about to me atm.

I'm allocating my rare candy in:
1. A Rayquaza to lvl 37: Even though I don't need it (many Dragonite at lvl 35 and 40), its IVs (15a/15d/14s) are too high to pass up on. It's going to be the best counter for the Lati twins, which is the sole reason I'm going to power up this one.
2. Moltres, probably 2 to lvl 35: It's the best counter for both Regice and Registeel and therefore worth it eventually. Entei has its last breakpoint below 30, and therefore I don't need to invest more rare candy in him.
3. More Kyogre, even though it doesn't see any use until Regirock, it's the legendary I have had the most luck with IV wise and it's the best water type in the game.
4. Mewtwo (got 1x lvl 30)/Groudon (got 1x lvl 40)/Raikou (got 1x lvl 40, 1x lvl 30): It's going to be a long way until I feel like investing in those but then again there's not much else on the list at that point.

Nice. But one could argue that investing in Rayquaza just for the sake of having the best counter to two legendaries who are inferior in the same role that Rayquaza fills could be questioned. Still after a 100% Ray flew on me today, I still have a 98 and 96% that will of course be powered up a little, but I will take one of those with flying moves.

Holding the rare candy doesn't mean you'll use it on something else. But because you can't power up everything now, you should wait and see which one you will need first. It could be Ray or Kyogre or it could be something you don't have yet. With very limited resources, you should not commit until one of them becomes more necessary than they are now. If you accumulate enough resources to power up both, then by all means do both since they are likely to be some of the best investments you can make before gen 4.
