Gen2 Stories: I am a dumbass
I drove past an "enemy" level 4 gym yesterday that was topped by a 29xx CP Blissey. Below her were three other garden variety 2xxx CP mons (usual Gen1 suspects). A few hours later when I finished my errands, I drove past again on the way home. This time it was a level 1 gym with just the Blissey. I thought to myself, "That's wierd -- why didn't the attacker finish the job?" Now I know.
I had naively thought, "I probably should defeat her -- wouldn't that be a nice mental trophy?" (I had bested a 22xx Blissey the day before.) WHAT A BEAR SHE IS!! I tried a bunch of combinations (I haven't evolved a Machamp yet). I used 2400-2900 range Dragonite, Snorlax, Rhyhorn, Gyrados, Arcanine, and Eggie -- all with various movesets (and many revives, potions). I got her close to fainting, but time would always expire. I tried this for like 20 minutes.
Finally, after reviving and re-using my only Dragonite (L25.5, DB/DC) and an Arcanine (L30, FF/Flamethrower) did I best her with but a few seconds to spare. Well, that left my ranks depleted...so I healed a few of the fallen to put one of my guys in the gym. By the time I did that the opposing team had already popped 2 mon in the damn gym! At first I was pissed, then I had to laugh...
Apparently they were all waiting there to pounce -- because none of those bastages could prestige the gym with Queen Blissey in the bottom slot.
That'll learn me! Next time, if I find a heavily contested L1 gym with a big Blissey in it, I'll let her clog it for that other team. :)

lol...that's EXACTLY why I didn't defeat the two mons who popped into the gym after the tanky Blissey. I couldn't hang out there all day to prestige it for my team (who are kind of scarce in these parts, anyway) and I didn't want to give those scavengers (no offense!!) the satisfaction of beating my pokemon!!! :)

I saw a gym yesterday with a 3160cp Blissey at the top of a tier 7 gym and figured I'd test your theory. I took down all other mons in the gym and left her alone at the top. I even took a shot at queen Blissey too, but as I only had one 3k+ Dragonite available, she barely made it with 3% HP left at timeout. It was a furious fight where she ate a pre-loaded hydropump before Alakazam and Dragonite went to work with only dodging charges. It truely felt like some sort of endgame boss, that's how tough she was.
Sadly someone went up and took her down just half an hour later, so it was obviously a challenge too tempting to resist. Thanks for the inspiration anyway, it was a fun experiment!
