I would thought Regigigas could be a natural extension of current trend, the titan trio.

I hope so, but dont think Niantic's that nice with giving us arguably the best of the creation trio first

The more important question is when the Gen 4 non-legendaries (except those with unusual mechanics) would be released.

End of September/start October after regirock leaves us.

Nope. We are several months from Gen 4 legendaries, though we may get gen 4 evolutions soon. We'll likely get a shiny run of the weather trio before Gen 4 legendaries.

Gigas would be the natural successor and make the most sense.

The gen 1 birds were followed by their master Lugia
The beasts were followed by their master Ho-oh
Groudon and Kyogre were followed by their master Rayquaza
The Lati twins don't have a master
The Regi trio's master is Regigigas and gen 4 is imminent................
