Gastly Community Day - I'm not as sure as everybody else.

Hi all. So, tons of people seem to be pretty sure October's Community Day will feature Gastly evolving into Shadow Claw Gengar. While I think this is definitely a possibility (I'm not evolving a Gastly until November), I have serious doubts. Why? 1) We've already had 2 (Halloween) ghost type events - you should have already collected plenty of Gastly candy by now. 2) A third ghost type event will likely be going on right around October's Community Day - A ghost type Community Day would be pretty repetative. 3) Gengar has been an important raid boss (I know Tyranitar is too, but Larvitar never enjoyed a spotlight in the way Gastly has). 4) Gastly spawn rates increased after the Mew Special Research task began.

I don't know... I sort of think Gastly has been done to death (I made a pun), maybe more than any other 'mon. If I were to guess, I'd say Beldum is just as likely a contender for October's Community Day as Gastly. It's kind of spooky and it's not a ghost (again, a ghost community day would be repetitive if Niantic has another Halloween event). Plus, it satisfies the 3 tier, highly desired evolution bar Niantic has set for past featured 'mons.

Listen, I want some SC Gengars as much as anybody else. I'm just not banking on it. What are your thoughts?

I agree, I think people want is so much, they think its a certainty they'll have it be that event, most people were certain this months CD was going to Ralts. I do think the Gastly event would fit inline with what Niantic's done with October in the past (I think its a possibility they could do it, but im not going to be shocked if they dont)

I hope it's a beldum day, mostly because I love metagross, but also it would fit the pattern of 3 stage evolution [eevee;s event did break this trend, but eevee's a bit of an oddity] (plus we need a good steel type) but I wont be suprised if they dont do it either, niantic loves throwing us curve balls

I agree. I don’t think they’d do an event focused on Ghastly during an already likely ghost event. I think giving it a move as strong as Shadow Claw after the outrage following Zapdos day is unlikely as well. I do think a Gengar with Shadow Claw or even Lick as a research breakthrough like they did with Snorlax is a possibility.

As for October’s community day, it seems they’re going back to the pattern of starter followed by a 3-stage hatched from a 10km egg in dex order. Ralts is no longer hatched from eggs and I think a Ralts day is unlikely anyway, none of the current Fairy moves that could potentially be fast moves are learned by Gardevoir and will gen 4 looming I doubt they would do an event for Gardevoir but not Gallade. Next would be Trapinch, but I doubt anyone would be excited about Flygon as its stats wouldn’t make up for having a better move unless it was something great. That leaves Slakoth next in line. If given a fast move other than Yawn, Slaking would likely be game breaking. That means it would have to learn a new fast move, possibly Body Slam, which would be underwhelming to say the least. So next in line is Bagon, then Beldum. Personally I’d be happy with either, Salamence is awesome but having only 1-bar charge moves is a drawback, maybe if they gave it Outrage it would open it up more. Beldum would also be great, Shiny Metagross is iconic and Meteor Mash would make Metagross an actually worthwhile Pokémon.

So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

It's hard to say if they're returning to the previously observed pattern until we see what they actually throw at us for October CD. I think Gardevoir CD could be really interesting, though I'm personally not sure what they'd give it as the exclusive move. Trapinch CD wouldn't be exciting, but then again, neither was Mareep. So that's probably not enough to rule it out. As for Slaking, even with a quick move that does damage, it won't break the meta (unless they give it a stupidly good quick move). It would instantly become the best Normal-type Mon out there, but it wouldn't be at all game-breaking.

Gastly community day would be neat if they let Gengar learn shadow claw during the 3hrs, but I can see your point. Apart from shiny hunting, I doubt anyone is hurting for Gastly candies. Still, the Gastly family are the most iconic ghost Pokemon, so it would be pretty fitting for October. Guess we'll have to wait and see!

On a side note, since we're talking about community day events...based on the info in the latest APK teardown posted on Silph Rd, it's possible that we *might* see Beldum community day sooner than expected. Why? Because visual effects for Meteor Mash (the signature move for Metagross) were added to the code. This could also be a move that's getting added in with the Gen 4 release and not related to a CD event, but either way, I'm hyped!

SC hangar would be welcome if you ask me. However looking at the past I would say it's more likely in the box.
