Future of Grass types

We've all read the "History of Grass types" page but now it's time to think about the future of these Pokémon. Let's go straight to the fact that Grass is the weakest type in the game which is weak to 5 types(equaled highest with rock). And Grass type attacks are weak to 7 types which is higher than ANY other type in the entire game! So, there will always be better defensive Pokémon to defend and Grass type attackers will never be good generalists! However, these Pokémon will find their uses in attacking any Ground-Water/Ground-Rock/Water-Rock type Pokémon. Regirock will be a good target but unfortunately Fighting type, the best attacking type in the game will outclass them for that role. Let's look further: Palkia won't be a good target because of its Dragon typing. Pure water types like Manaphy and Coballion are good targets but Electric types have outclassed them for that role as well. The best grass type attackers currently in the game are Exeggutor and Sceptile which lack the power to outclass their rivals. So, we need new heroes to represent the nature. There's no clue about the arrival of Celebi so we'll have to keep it aside. Gen 4 will bring 2 new hopes. Tangrowth with Vine Whip/Power Whip and Leafeon with Razor Leaf/Leaf Blade will be great additions to the grass family. Virizion and Gogoat will be more powerful but still they won't outpower the electric type legendaries or the grear fighters. There will be some dual type grass types (Chesnaught/Decidueye) which will take ages to come. But unfortunately, their secondary type will get the best of them. So, in my opinion grass will always be a suboptimal choice for any situation. Share your thoughts about the grass types. Let the discussion/argument begin!

It is easier to solo Omaster with grass, though.

There is not so much weak about grass types. It's just that they gave a few normal typed species excessive bulk and a few other types excessive DPS which players consequently gravitate to. So even though the matrix has grass weak to X other types compared to typically Y means nothing as long as it is weak to 1 popular species. And it attacks into water, ground and rock which are/used to be popular. It already finds more use than flying, bug, ice, fairy, poison, ghost and steel types.

If they even bothered making status/support moves, shit like this will not happen.

The hard counter of water ensures grass types will have situational uses. Fairy and Poison types both have fewer uses than grass currently.

Don't worry fairy will become useful soon. Lots of dragon types after this.

True; but I am skeptical that Fairies will eclipse Ice types in the Dragon Slayer role. They are so underpowered.
Then again, this whole discussion is based on the creators not shaking things up, despite their history of shaking things up.

And ice types aren't underpowered in your opinion? The best ice mon in the game has less than 200 base attack. Right now Gardevoir is a much better attacker in vacuum than any ice mon, but gen 4 will totally change that playing field with Mamoswine, Glaceon, Weavile and Togekiss. Mamoswine looks like the obvious winner based on stats but really can't know until we see the movesets.

Only if it's double SE. Ice isn't going to be of much use against Lati twins, other counters are much better.

But gardevoir won't be good against them either as they resist her fast moves. Dragonite and ttars will dominate against them.

That moment when someone thinks Coballion is a water type...

Probably meant Keldeo. Still it is water/fighting, not pure water. But single weakness to grass (and no double weaknesses), which is the relevant part of the inclusion in this topic.

Yeah, that may be it. I forgot he could've meant Keldeo.

Also, forgive my snarky comment @OP. I like to think that I normally am not that douvhy.

Add : Fighting type tied with Ground type for the best attacking type of the game!
