Forgetting CP for a moment is Lapras a better defender than Dragonite, Vaporeon, or Rhydon?

How would you rank: Vape, Lapras, Nite, and Don as defenders outside of CP. Lapras has better defensive moves than Vape less common counters and just as much HP. It doesn't have DT or O like Nite, but it has more bulk and less relevant counters. Don gets a bad rap but it pretty solid quick moves for defense and SE comes super quick. Lapras has more bulk lol.

from personal point of view ( not using numbers or so )
i would say lapras then vape then with a mile draqonite and rhydon , i even think dragonite is only a trouble when it is very high cp and best moves , other than that dragonite is not that good , i think rhydon and dragon is more of attackers than defenders but we all know they are been placed in gyms due to the CP

Yep, Lapras in a gym always leaves me confused as what type of attacker to choose. Fighting type works well, and I guess a pure-electric Lanturn would too. All the whining is because now it's more difficult to give it high cp. Not impossible though (unless it hatched before you were lvl 20 as my IS/IB did, lol). Wait 'til they nerf Blissey, mwa-hah-ha!

Why do you assume they nerf Blissey?

I think it is quite possible they do it somehow. She is an outlier and outliers are the most likely to lose in any "rebalancing". Remember when the speed of attacks and everything changed then they had to change back for what is thought to be Blissey being so op? They need to give defensive mons in general more usefulness but that is a tough line to tie if it makes Blissey even stronger for them. I did one hope it doesn't get nerfed. I like fighting them.

I would agree she needs to be nerfed if they boost defensive pokemon in general, but as of now she is the only real defender...

Lapras>Dragonite>Vaporeon>Rhydon

Lapras without Water Gun and Dragon Pulse is a good defender. Sadly when Hydro Pump was added, Ice Shard became legacy.

Dragonite with DT/Outrage is the best, still OK when with SW, definitely not with DB. Ice Pokémon are still hard to come by while being good for Wigglytuff to prestige with.

If Vaporeon learns Bubble, Dragonite (with DT or SW) and it are both equally good. Water Gun is a solid move for attack, not good for defense. Vaporeon is better than a Dragonite with DB.

Rhydon lost obviously, the 2 double weaknesses crush it.

I didn't fight a Lapras post-nerf, but pre-nerf I found it the thoughest one to fight.

Same here. I still place it but it gets shaved. I think that's understandable considering it sucks to prestige against. I'm hoping the gym changes makes it better.
