Focus Blast Mewtwo or Dynamic Punch Machamp?

My question is this. Assuming both have similar IVs and CPs, which will be more effective in taking down those Blisseys and Snorlaxes in gyms: Machamp with Counter and Dynamic Punch, or Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Focus Blast? I'm trying to decide if I should push to get a good IV Mewtwo with FB, or if I should focus more on powering up my Machamp. Thanks in advance for the advice/answers!

Hariyama/Machamp is easily better than Focus Blast Mewtwo.

Have you ever reach a point where using Focus Blast is overkill?

1. If you decide to use focus Blast you wasted charge meter for just a small chunk of health.

2. If you decided to save Focus Blast you wasted time. If you had Dynamic you could have ended the battle sooner without using full charge meter.

I agree. I panicked before the deadline and TM'd all of my Mewtwo to SB, even my two with FB that I had previously used all the time. I was assuming that I would simply TM at least one back when the month is over. Or, at worst, I would power up another one if I caught a good specimen. But now I'm not so sure. I have found that I really don't miss the wasted energy or time after all. Machamp is faster and more efficient at taking down normal types. But you really need to dodge those Dazzling Gleams.

Yeah, I need more practice dodging Dazzling Gleam. Sounds like Machamp is better at this job than Mewtwo, but he also takes more damage from things like Zen Headbutt.

Actually I was on hiatus I didn't know SB is about to become legacy. Luckily I still have a few SB Mewtwo.

Yeah machamp needs to dodge DG.

Mewtwo can miss a dodge or two but it's not like you can go in with it expecting to not have to dodge. Maxed perfect against maxed perfect, each DG is 22% of Mewtwo's total hp bar and Blissey will generally launch 5+ DGs before Mewtwo can kill it.

Depends on your priorities.

Pick Mewtwo if you want to survive longer in fights and/or don't want to dodge attacks. Mewtwo takes neutral damage from Dazzling Gleam.

Pick Machamp if you want higher damage output at the cost of dying more easily in fights and using more potions.

I personally use a Focus Blast Mewtwo and I've not had any gripes with him so far.

Those Dazzling Gleams do tend to get me, so maybe Mewtwo would be a good choice for me. It really depends, though, because I like Machamp's damage output. I guess I'll have to experiment and see which of the two I like better. Thank you for the input!

I've always dodge. I guess if you never dodge Focus blast Mewtwo might be viable. Mewtwo takes netral damage from DG I don't know how many he can take before fainting.

Mewtwo isn't great if you never dodge, you'll need 1,5 for every fight against a maxed Blissey. Not dodging means you'll either use humongous amounts of healing resources or take a longer time by using super potion-efficient counters such as Metagross, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Moltres, Latios, Aggron etc.

"Assuming both have similar IVs and CPs"

At similar levels, Machamp is faster than Mewtwo, but Mewtwo takes fewer potions. However, your question was about CP. Max Machamp is 2889, but a ~28XX Mewtwo is only about level 25. At similar CP, Machamp should be a lot better than Mewtwo.

Okay, that does make sense. So what if they were at similar levels instead of similar CP? Would Mewtwo be a better choice because his CP would be a lot higher?

I don’t have the best team, but even I have more 2,600 CP counter-dynamic punch machamps than I need. Just send abunch of them.

Against high CP Blissey (>3000 CP), I prefer Mewtwo with PC+FB because dodging when you use PC is more easy than using counter. When Blissey has one third of total CP, I use Machamp.

However, you also should powering up your Machamp, because is more useful than Mewtwo in Tyranitar raids.

Machamp is faster, wastes less charge, and is easier to accumulate candies for.
