Flareon vs Exeggutor for Blissey
Now I've got my confusion/solar exeggutor I was excited to use him against some top Blissey. He does considerably better than my Flareon I reckon. I think defensively it is a given (since Exeggutor has much better Stamina and resists ZH), but even offensively it seems Exeggutor is taking the cake:
Then I look at the DPS figures
Fire Spin 20 DPS
Overheat 61.75 DPS
Confusion 18.75 DPS
Solar Beam 53.68 DPS
It seems to me that Exeggutor can never technically out-DPS a Flareon against Blissey? Or are my gut feelings just wrong? Usually by the 2nd solar beam Blissey is already down to half health (so 4 solar beams kill Blissey), but I need 5-6 overheats to finish a battle with Flareon.
The Flareon IV is 10/14/14
Exeggutor IV is 15/15/11

The problem with Raw DPS comparisons is that you have to account for Tankability & Dodging.
Damage received = Energy
Dodging Quick Moves = Not Damaging while Dodging.
Take Zen Headbutt on Blissey. With Eggy I don't dodge it. I have the HPS to absorb it, and save time for firing my quick move + gain energy from that absorbed damage.
As such, it's possible that the Conf/SB Eggy does indeed win faster despite the paper game.
This is same argument why I feel so strongly that Gary is underrated 1/2 a tier. Or that Tier 2.5 is overrated. Gary can often "out glass canon" Alk simply by not wasting time dodging quicks and using the extra energy to fire Hydro more.
Had a similar experience when I used my snorlax vs a dragonite. I mistimed my hyper beam (it fired after dragonite casted his) and as a result I took a direct hyper beam from dragonite. Much to my surprise snorlax survived (with some odd 25% HP left) and the energy bar went from 0 to 60%. Soaking up enemy damage for energy for your own charge moves seems like a reasonable strategy if you have surplus of potions and revives.
Also if I reason correctly:
Flareon has Def 206
Exeggutor has Def 158
So technically, exeggutor takes 'more damage' and replenishes energy faster actually?
You seem to only be looking at the raw values. charge move DPS is relatively useless because they don't take into account the time it takes the fast move to charge the energy bar. You also need to take into account the energy that is accrued by the fast move - the faster the energy accrued, the more charge moves you can use.
