First Typhlosion - Bad Moves?

After hatching several cyndaquil during the event (they just don't spawn here) I found out there's a nest in a park in the city and caught enough to evolve my first Typhlosion. Nice IVs (15A/13/13), but it got shadow claw/solar beam which doesn't even get STAB and is rated C.

Am I wrong to be disappointed, or should I plan to visit the park a lot for a chance at another one?

Thanks for your opinions.

Put it in the gym, though in this case, Ember is slightly better. Solar Beam is the best type coverage move for Typhlosion, every type is covered by it, the exceptions are fire and dragon.

And evolve another one with attacking moves.

I would work on another one. Unless the gym cp in your location makes sense for you to place it as a defender. I'm not sure what u mean by " visot the park a lot" is it an active nest? If so then go as much as possible. I got one (53iv) the first night of gen 2.. in an incense. shadow claw/overheat. it works well enough in some situations but i dunno sounds like you got even worse moves. so probably i wouldn't invest in it.

It was merely a Poke Dex entry for me. It's at best a poor mans Flareon I wouldn't waste the effort in obtaining 125 candies to reroll.

The event finally gave me enough candies to evolve one, the last mon outside of regionals, unown, and the swinub evo I lacked. I evolved it having never looked at his possible moves, saw what that same moveset and all I could think was "why"

Well, on second thought, it may not be so bad. SB as an attack move is devastating and may not even need STAB. I'll have to try him as an attacker, and also want to put him in a gym (CP 2315 can get a decent spot in this area). They're very rare here and I have yet to see one in a gym.

Thanks to this game and TSR's nest atlas I have found a beautiful park in the city that I plan to visit enough before the next nest migration to evolve a rare female cyndaquil (so I'll have a pair).... will be interesting to see what moves she gets.
