First legendary raid... ever!

.... but all I have to show for it is a shadow in the Dex. My 12-year-old son caught him, though, and I'm grateful for that. His twin sister used my account to participate (she broke her phone) but I threw about half of the 12 balls we got; despite all golden razz, several great throws and curve balls it ran for the hills :-(

Still, it was an exciting experience. The most popular park in the city finally had a legendary raid at the right time! Close to 40 people participated in 2 groups (which can never happen in our small town).

Tell me the truth: I should have caught him, right? I'm level 38, my son 27. Or are raid bosses harder to catch for higher level players? Just yesterday two Instinct players, 25 and 29, asked me to help them with an Alakazam raid (they had tried and failed). They caught him easily, but it took me 14 balls! They were happy and gave me a Discord invite. So maybe I'll get another chance? But probably not for this one....

Win some, lose some. Right after the raid I caught a Dratini, several Magikarp and then my daughter caught me a Shinykarp (the first one since the water event! I thought I'd never get another).

Congrats on doing your first legendary raid! I’m sorry you couldn’t catch it. But I’ve found Suicune to be the most difficult to catch yet. All of the non-EX legenaries have a 2% catch rate, and I’ve found this one to be the orneriest one yet.

Also, that’s great about the Discord invite. Before I stumbled on a group at a raid, which led to a Discord invite, my spouse and I thought we were the only 2 players in our town. We were so wrong and have been raiding with an awesome group of people non stop since. Hope it works out similarly for you. Good luck!

Sounds like a good day, sorry you didn't catch it. The catch rate is not level dependent but it is low for the beasts. Even if you hit it 10 great curves with GR you only have ~70% chance to catch it.

Thanks, I feel better now. I know it's only a game, but a wonderful distraction from the stressors of RL. If I don't get Suicune (well, time is running out) I know I'll get the next one.

Just wondering:. Do you think Niantic might make all previously released legendaries, starting with my team bird, Articuno, available in December as a special holiday gift? Sure would be nice.

Here's my consolation price. Only 30 CP now, but he will become my 4th shiny Gyarados.

Most people I speak to seem to think that the legendaries will come back at some point - maybe all together over the holiday season - if not at that time, then perhaps some time in the future.

My take on it is that as long as there will be people willing to give money for them then they have a chance to come back.

When I read the headline, I had a feeling it was you. Congratulations! The beasts are tough to catch, no matter what your level, and even if you are a very skilled thrower. I've had good luck with Suicune, but had a low success rate with Entei. It's a numbers game, so hopefully you will get another chance.

I'm sure there will be another chance for all the legendaries, and it might be right after the end of the current rotation (Dec. 1). If not, I'm sure it will be soon enough.

Getting a Discord invitation completely changed raiding for me, for the better, and hopefully, it will for you as well.

My catch rate hovers around 1:3 for legendaries. I'm level 38, throw consistent curve balls, and even when I really concentrate and throw mostly "greats", there is still a pretty good chance the boss will flee. I have "won" three hundred some legendary raids, and caught somewhat over 100 bosses.

I am aware of some super[wo]men who can throw excellent curves almost every time, but I don't share their fine motor-control. Even then, the boss flees pretty often.

Congratulations!! Silver lining is that suicune isn't good for anything anyway. Hope the discord group works for you.

TOday I hit it with all 10 balls all excellent and it still run away! My overall suicune catch rate is 33/52.

I'm not trying to break any balls here, but do you know about the catch "trick" (manipulating the circle size) so that you get an "excellent" on any ball that hits? If you don't know what I'm talking about, google it.

Congrats! It was just a matter of time for you. The big prize for you today (imho) was hooking up with a group. Get on that discord group if you haven’t already. That’s how our group started with a handful of us, and it has spread to a couple hundred or so. It’s very rare when we can’t get a raid group together, and we’ve formed a number of really good friendships too. But it wasn’t always that way. I used to just watch those tyranitars come and go.

Btw when articuno first came out, I was 0 for 7 before I got my first. Also, different mons are easier/harder for different people. I have friends who couldn’t get raikou easily, but I managed 23 for 26. But when it came to moltres, I was terrible. Everyone caught way more than I did.

Thanks, all, I have recovered from my disappointment (it helps to know that not everyone catches legendaries, even much more experienced players). This event, which has brought out a lot of players, has been a lot of fun. Access to Discord is priceless, I never knew what was going on in the city where I spend plenty of time (including work); maybe we can even get a local group started, there are definitely enough people on all teams who would probably be happy to raid together.

It's only a matter of time until I can actually add a legendary to my collection :D
