Fire/Ice Event don't delight?
Niantic gives you extra XP which is quite useless after you reach the 36 lvl. I haven't power up my monster more than 35 lvl. What I need is stardust and extra candy.
I think Niantic try to balance the game.
Only thing whats delight is Cyndaquil, I haven't got Typhlosion it is one of those 4 which still missing.

List of mons I'm looking forward to catching to hopefully get a good one:
Ice:
Lapras - wish list lol
Cloyster
Swinub
Sneazel
Fire:
Charmander
Houndour
Cyndaquil
I've caught so many Cyndaquil here (they spawn a lot) but I have yet to find a good IV one that is of a decent level. I think I'm close to 400 candies but no good ones for evolving.
I have caught a total of 2 Swinub since gen2 released, still don't have my Piloswine. Only have 1 Sneasel, and he gets an evolution in future generations too. Only have 2 Lapras, both of them hatched, none of them with 2 ice moves, waiting like crazy to get one with two ice moves that I will max for sure if he has good iv, I don't matter the nerf, I would even walk with him, love Lapras and it is a shame that is soooo rare for me. Not a single one has spawned in my town since release so there is that.
Not looking that much into fire mon, only one interesting for me is Cyndaquil. I hope Niantic does right this time and gives tons of ice mon, I really need them.
And please, make Lapras more common than Larvitar during rock event! One can dream you know...until today this type events only have been a disapointment to me, but still having hope that I can get something good of them...if I get again crazy clusters of Slugma I am gonna be very mad...
Priority list:
1) Houndour. They are stupid rare here and I am still not even close to a Houndoom.
2) Cyndaquil. Still don't have any of its evolved forms.
3) Lapras double ice. Yeah, probably never happening.
4) Loading up on Swinub candy in preparation for Mamoswine.
5) Shellder candy is always useful.
6) Getting a bit of an XP boost.
That's about it, I think.
XP is always important and moving up a level is a big deal. Maybe his point is that so many many XP points are required to move up that XP is not as important as Stardust which would be true. I am lookingnforward to the event. If nothing else it breaks up the monotony of day to day play. There is an advantage thay van be gained from every event.
