Finally managed to solo Machamp!

Boss Moves: BP/CC
Weather: Cloudy (!)
Time taken: ~160s

Team:
1. L30 12A/15D/14S Espeon with Conf/FS
2. L30 15A/15D/14S Alakazam with Conf/FS (Charged TMed from FB)
3. L30 13A/15D/15S Alakazam with PC/FS (powered up from L20)
4. L30 13A/14D/13S Exeggutor with Conf/Psyc
5. L30 15A/13D/15S Exeggutor with Conf/Solar
6. L30 14A/14D/11S Dragonite with DT/Hu (not needed)

Caught IVs: 15A/15D/10S
Caught moves: BP/HS

Any reason not to immediately spend 44k stardust (I have 500k), 38 Machop candy (I have 96), a Fast TM (I have 5) and a Charged TM (I have only one, but no better candidates and do a legendary raid a day) on my new prize?

Was keen to spend 6 Rare Candy (I have 139) on Larvitar so I can start walking Ralts (39 candy so far). I guess this successful Machamp solo somewhat reduces the urgency?

I'll answer quick to nicely correct you--obviously you changed your Espeon from Psybeam to Confusion---a very nice upgrade. If it is often cloudy there I would save the candy for a boosted wild Machop catch. Not cloudy much here, but once I instantly got a 2600cp because I had the candy for it.

Oops! I used the Charged TM on my Alakazam with FoB, not my Espeon. Good catch.

Congrats though on your win. When you get the right squad, which you now do, you can gravitate more and more to them.

In my city Machamp isn't as useful now, we have 1000s of gyms and in the 1000s of players--if a gym is tough, just drive a few blocks to a crusty church. I'm sure your's is much more competitive and it is nice to know you have the tools to battle a big gym

Gyms in Singapore are ridiculously competitive and will flip within a few hours (sometimes a few minutes) unless the Blissey is constantly fed Golden Razzberries (which allow the yellow spoofers to lock out legit solo players). On the bright side, legendary raids are abundant and most have twenty people show up just before the egg hatches.

Before I CTMed my L30 98% Alakazam and powered up my L20 96% Alakazam, the following team took on a Count/DP Machamp (weather was not yet in the game) and everyone fainted with around 30s to spare:
1. L30 12A/15D/14S Espeon with Conf/FS (same)
2. L29 8A/15D/14S Espeon with Conf/Psyb (replaced)
3. L30 15A/15D/14S Alakazam with Conf/FoB (CTMed)
4. L30 13A/14D/13S Exeggutor with Conf/Psyc (same)
5. L30 15A/13D/15S Exeggutor with Conf/Solar (same)
6. L30 14A/14D/11S Dragonite with DT/Hur (same)

Is the difference between DP and CC that huge? I actually expected my slightly-improved team to do even worse because CC was weather-boosted.

There is a big difference in survivability. DP is only 10% weaker than CC but is spammed almost twice as often. With your team you will have to dodge with the Espeon and zams.

There is a big difference between Close Combat and the other 2 charge moves in terms of difficulty. The other two being about on par with each other - Heavy Slam being harder due to it's lower cooldown - and Close Combat being much easier.

Close Combat has slightly higher damage per use but it deals much less cycle DPS because it's total damage per 100 energy is lower and the other movesets are also less predictable because they can be used anywhere from 50 to 100 energy.

Like once the boss uses Close Combat you know you're safe for a while to spam Confusion whereas with the other movesets, every Confusion used puts you at risk of a missed dodge, unless he's just spammed 2 in a row, so personally I prefer Psycho Cut on Alakazams as you're more consistent with how many charge moves you can put out before fainting when you can't miss dodges.

Even in Cloudy weather, Close Combat movesets are still less difficult than Heavy Slam movesets in extreme weather / without weather bonuses in terms of damage dealt and time to win and that's assuming perfect dodging.

In reality Heavy Slam is more unpredictable so you're more likely to miss dodges than against Close Combat so the actual time compared to the expected time is going to be even slower.

Congrats.
since you can now solo a machamp and short on tms, I would look for a machamp with DP and 15 atk so you don't need to use cTM.

I agree with the above comment. Once you solo it once the just get easier and easier. I've done around 50 champs and I've never seen a hundo. Snagged a few 95s though. You'll get an even better one that will cost less resources if you keep at it. I wouldn't be mad at you for boosting one if you don't have any though. Good luck.

Congrats! It wasn't too long ago that I soloed my first Machamp (on my short lunch break no less) and I'll never forget that feeling :D
