Fighting versus Tyranitar?

Should I start investing stardust (levelling up) in an offensive Fighting pokemon (Primape, Machamp) to be prepared for generation 2 ?

At the moment i feel fighting mons have no function (against snorlax there are better options) and also in generation 2 the only relevant fighting mon would be Heracross ant this would be weak as a bug versus potential Tyranitar rock attacks.

You can be evolving trying to get "good" fighting type moveset and collecting candy to be able to power up, but I wouldn't bother spending stardust now. Wait until you actually first see a Tyranitar in a gym. And even then you might want to test your lower level fighting pokemon against it first. If it does a good amount of damage against a Tyranitar while it is only level 20, then it will be worth powering up to level 30.

He'll be single weak to water. It's likely Vaporeon will be a harder counter than any fighting types are.

You can prepare them as specialists or prestigers, but I doubt it'll be worth the investment for attacking enemy gyms.

Poliwrath will the ultimate counter, with bubble getting stab and being super effective and submission getting stab and being double (I believe) super effective

I didn't think of him, i have a fully levelled poliwrath B/SM (I think as him only as defender). But bubble is really slow on the offensive side (more change on missing dodges)

I have a Mudshot/Submission 87% Poliwrath and he's really underrated as an attacker. He is 1800CP and will prestige well vs 2700 Vaporeons and also does well vs Lapras. Bubble is not great for attacking, so I'm hoping that my Poliwraths moveset will make him relevant as an attacker.

Ground is SE vs Tyranitar and most of Tyranitars expected moves will be NVE vs Poliwrath.

Wait till we know the moves of heracross.
If heracross gets good fighting moves , it will be the best fighter.

I have also stocked up a 98% Machop just in case Machamp gets a better moveset pool to choose from :) I guess Tyranitars movesets will also be a factor to which pokemon is the best counter.

Fighting pokemon are very weak in the game even if they are super effective.
