Favorite Gym attackers
I usually use the most efficient gym attackers for gyms but I was wondering if I am missing out on some enjoyment of the game. Does anyone have any favorite pokemon to use even if it isn't the most optimal?

I actually like using Helios, my Ho-Oh (ES/SoB), on occasion for gym battles. Is he an optimal fighter? Hell no! That said, his stats make him super tanky, so he can take a lot of punishment before going down. Plus, solar beam has such a cool animation, and hits hard (even though Ho-Oh doesn't have STAB for it and it's not usually doing SE damage). Machamp may clear through Blisslaxkings at a much quicker pace, but the sun god does it with style! 😉
I'll also use my ES/SA Lugia in gym battles for similar reasons.
Hands down, Lugia. With Dragon Tail/Sky Attack it has fantastic coverage that has no bad matchups at all except for Crunch Steelix, Stone Edge Aggron, Shadow Ball Gardevoir, and fully-motivated Tyranitars that require a Charged Move or two to take. It has incredible TDO meaning I won't need to switch, resistance to commonly-seen Psychic attacks, and an incredible 2-bar dodge-friendly set. I'm working on maxing out a second Lugia for Extrasensory/Sky Attack, which is the same damage but higher Energy, though it doesn't retain the coverage that Dragon Tail offers.
Don't underestimate Lugia - has the second best duel-ability behind Blissey, but with DPS near Tyranitar and good defensive typing given the current gym defenders.
For fully motivated BlissChanLaxKing gyms: PC/FB Mewtwo
For demotivated gyms: DB/DC Latios
For medium to fully motivated gyms with mixed defenders: DT/O Rayquaza or DT/O Dragonite.
For Gyarados: CB/TB Mew, because he is Mew, and I want to use him.
In general, my priority is time, so I like to use an attacker that can plow through the whole gym as quickly as possible, the Mew being the exception. Many will argue that C/DP Machamp is quicker against normal types than PC/FB Mewtwo, but the Mewtwo lasts longer, particularly with the easy dodging afforded by PC, and neutral damage taken from PR and DG.
I like using Blaziken to clear normal mons. It resists Steel and Fairy so Heavy Slam/Play Rough/Dazzling Gleam don’t do much especially with dodging, plus Blaziken is a cool Pokémon.
Other than that I tend to use the typical Machamp army, or whatever is weather boosted like Gyarados or Tyranitar.
Against blissey, chansey, snorlax, slaking and tyranitar I always use my maxed out Breloom. Fighting with Breloom has a very smooth feeling compared to machamp, and I just love the way it looks. Given that it is comparable to machamp in dps and I have more then enough revives, it is a perfect attacker for me. Other pokemon that I like using are scizor and sceptile, because there moves are lightening fast. Scizor doesn't cover much, but sceptile can take care of vaporeon, golem, rhydon and donphan.
I have quite a few! I really like using non-optimal Pokemon for gyms, because they don't see much use in raiding and gymming doesn't require such fine tuning.
I have a Latios with Dragon Breath/Dragon Claw powered to level 30, which is amazing for dodge practice, and Blastoise with Water Gun/Hydro Cannon is amazing for the same reason. I also really like Alakazam with Psycho Cut/Future Sight - the fast move feels so much nicer, and the dodging ability makes up for Alakazam's low bulk. I also use Mewtwo with Psycho Cut/Shadow Ball, and if it wasn't so important in a lot of my raids I'd consider making it Focus Blast, especially since it's cloudy so often in my area. Oh, and for demotivated gyms, a high level Ditto is super fun, especially if a good attacker is up first - a level 35 Ditto transformed into Salamence or Dragonite with destroy anything that's left.
