So now that the pink event is over and gen 2 is on his way it seems that even with the new mons introduced there still won't be a good grass type. Politoed, Meganium and Bellossom will all have max CP in the region of 2200, meaning at lvl 30 they will be under 2k. So Exeggutor and Venasaur will still be the best grass types in game.

Where I live there aren't a lot grass types, so I was able to evolve one Venasaur (crap moveset) and finally evolved my first Exeggutor during the event. Actually I evolved 4 Exeggutors total in the the last two weeks.

2496 CP, lvl 31,5, 80% IV C/SoB (caught lvl 30) 2477 CP, lvl 31,5, 78% IV C/SoB (caught lvl 28) 16xx CP, lvl 20, 87% IV Z/SoB (hatched) 16xx CP, lvl 20, 80% IV C/P (hatched)

I use the two C/SoB for Defense, so I tend to max out the one with Z/SoB. What would you do? Would you wait out how gen 2 goes or is there a matchup where Z/SoB Exeggutor performs better than any alternatives out there?

Thanks in advance!

Powering up Exeggutor for defense sadly got even less tempting with the introduction of dark type pokemons in Gen2 coming up. I have a 93% lvl20 Exeggutor with C/P and I can't decide whether to max it or not. They hit like trucks though, both on offense and defense.

Have you tried attacking with C/SoB? If you like any of them for attacking, I might have held out on powering up the ZH/SoB. If (when) your two lvl 31,5 exeggutors are too low cp to get a good position in gyms, they'll still be great for taking on Vaporeon as attackers.

Also, how many Exeggcute candies do you have currently?

I tried attacking with Confusion, but even though it makes damage the move is really slow which makes it hard to dodge. In gyms both of them normally sit around the 7 position, so it's not like they are the first out even if there are some gyms where they would be at 10 (I have a defensive Snorlax and Dragonite for that). I sit at 106 candy right now.

I'd say max out your Z/SoB for attacking; you have him now and he'll be useful no matter what Gen 2 brings. I have a 91% Exeggutor at Level 30 with that moveset, and he slices thru two, sometimes nearly 3, defenders if they are water or ground types. Just this morning he did awesome against Vaporeon, Gyarados and Rhydon.

And you're C/SoB ones will be fine attacking also for now if you do decide to wait and see how the Gen 2 mons and move sets look. It's SoB that's the devastating move!

If you mean for defense... Venusaur and Exeggutor are also not that good because their CP won't reach 3K and will be the first to be kicked out of gyms.

If you mean for attack into water/plant/rock types, that depends entirely on the moveset they get the grass type with the highest attack with actual grass type movesets right now is neither exeggutor (who has no grass quick attack) nor venusaur, but victreebell, but because his only gras type quick attack is razor leaf, he's not that great... if for example... Bullet seed and Grass Knot turn out to be bah-broken like water gun/hydropump at the game's launch and say... politoed gets that movest, he could easily demote Venusaur as the best grass type attacker. It's way too early to judge.

I actually have 4 Victebeels at lvl 31,5 all with Razor Leaf (two with SoB) right under 2k CP...they are pretty much useless, since RL is slow and they take too much damage, so that you can't take down two Vaporeons. At the moment I use Dragonite against Vaporeons and thats fine. Where I get into trouble is when gyms have more than 2 Gyarados, since I only have one Jolteon.

Yes, the point is... the moveset of the pokemon is probably the most important factor here, at least for attacking, (for defense the only factor is it's max CP btw) so we might very well have a new king if the stars align and we have a relatively good grass type getting a good grass moveset. By the way, rigth now I only have one venusaur (VW/SoB) and a few bad IV's tangela with good movesets, and that's what I use most of the time... but my favorite vaporeon killer is none other than Parasect with BB/SoB, solar beam destroys waters, and bug bite charges it soo fast it's not even funny... well maybe just a little funny.

Yeah I get you...I have two Tangelas for Prestiging also, but if you want to take down a lvl 10 gym, is Parasect able to take down more than 2 Vaporeons in the 2700-2800 range with his low CP? I recently got a Parasect with BB/SoB, but I will use him as a prestiger. He's currently a little low at 900 CP but I imagine him being devastating in the 1200 CP range.

3 might be too much, my point is... even with low stats, parasect is great because his moveset is great even witout a grass type quick attack, but bug bite produces 15+ energy per second, compared to around 10 that VW produces, even if VW's DPS is higher, BB charges SoB 30% faster, so in the end you get a comparable damage output even if parasect's stats are much lower and his quick attack doesn't have stab.

Well congrats on 4 mostly useful movesets!

ZH is a bit nicer on offense b/c it's quicker and does a bit more dmg. So I'd consider leveling up the ZH/SoB if you need another grass on offense. Def wouldn't power up the 2 @ 31.5 any further, but they should still be a big part of your attack team.

The C/P, while the best defensive moveset, is kind of unfortunate right now w/ Egg's low max CP. So if you're going to transfer any...that's the one

Thanks for the advice! I didn't plan to push them higher than lvl 31,5. I lvl every usefull pokemon to 31,5 except for a SW/HB Dragonite and a Z/BS Snorlax (both stuck in gyms). I tried attacking with C but it's really slow so you're in danger of eating the HP from Vaporeon. The point on C/P seems plausible, so the C/SoB ones will probabyly be my defenders #4 and 5 :)

I use Exeggutor with Zen Headbutt/Solar Beam a lot against Snorlax. It hits really hard and resists Zen Headbutt and Earthquake.

Side note: Politoed is just a water type.

Water Type but had grass moves if I remember correctly? Still...without Stab he would have to get a hell of a moveset to be relevant.

Green is not always Grass. No, Politoed never had a Grass attack. (Maybe you're thinking on Ludicolo, but we have to wait a lot for it.)

About Exeggutor, its days will end with Houndoom.

Poor Eggy. My favorite is now ZH/Seed Bomb for Water Pulse Vapes and I think he'll still be just as relevant for that purpose.
