evolving buddy loses current progress?

I am about to evolve my ralts into gardevoir which is currently my buddy. I remember reading posts a year ago about losing your current walking progress when you evolve your buddy. Is that still the case? if so i might have to finish off the 2.5/5 km left on the current progress before evolving. Thanks

It was the case the last time I evolved a buddy (an Eevee) some time ago, so I would recommend finishing that last candy :)

I evolved an Espeon a week ago and it reset to 0/5KM.

IIRC, it does warn you that current progress will reset though. So it is not completely unexpected.
