Espeon and Umbreon during event

I just learned how to get Espeon and Umbreon by walking 10km with Eevee. However, during this event, you can get 2 Eevee candies by walking 5km. Does that mean you can get Espeon and Umbreon after 5km rather than 10?

No, you have to walk the 10 km. Also remember to have the Eevee as your buddy when you evolve it and make sure you have a GPS fix.

So the game knows where you are to determine whether it is day or night. If you have no GPS signal, it does not use your last known location. It just defaults back to rolling the die with Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon.

You need at least 10km AND at least 2 candy. So during event, you still need at least 10km, but you will be gaining at least 4 candy in that distance. And it is best to keep that 10km consecutive.

Might as well wait until after the event to walk Eevee, since the extra Eevee candy is worth far less than double candy for a rare species (Beldum is my current buddy).
