Entei's use in the current meta.

Will he be more useful than a generalist attacker in the future ?

Nope, Metagross? Tryanitar
Registeel? Machamp
Ice type? Machamp
Venusaur? Mewtwo,Espeon
Exeggutor? Tryanitar

To be concluded , only pure and strong grass type or grass+ice type will bring out entei....
Anyone? May be gen 4 ? Abomasnow? Gonna wait a year for that

What on earth are you talking about?

Entei will do a equal or better job on any of those than the suggestions you've listed.

Metagross? Tyranitar gets rekt by steel moves
Registeel? Entei resists steel, Machamp doesn't
Ice type? Same as above
Venusaur? Fire resists grass, psychic doesn't resist grass or poison
Exeggutor? Tyranitar gets rekt by solarbeam, especially with dodge glitch

And even Abomasnow will have something better to fear: Ho-oh.

Assuming the moves don't change, Ho Oh only learns extrasensory and steel wing as fast moves. Ho-Oh sucks as of right now.

I ran pokebattler ranking pokemon after DPS-rate on on lvl 30,31,32,33,34,35 against mewtwo.
Dodge special+dodge special pro;
1. not dodging quick moves,
2. Firing charge move as soon as possible
3. realistic chance of dodging a charge move.

I consider a pokemon useful if it is a top 6 ranked DPS alternative, mewtwo has 8 different set ups so:
lvl 30: 3/8
lvl 31: 2/8
lvl 32: 5/8
lvl 33: 3/8
lvl 34: 4/8
lvl 35: 4/8
21/48.

It's decent against mew and demolish Celebi.
Moltres is a similar story. If you are above lvl 30 and you can power it up above lvl 30 it's good albeit not amazing but still good.

I'd say it's a decent option (but moltres is better option if you want more DPS at the cost of some bulk?) if you are higher than lvl 30 and is looking for something half-bulky-half-high-DPSer.

Compare Tyranitar SE vs Crunch: at lvl 35 with realistic charge-dodging SE is the move to have. If you want to quickly get some high DPS-rate go with crunch. It all depends what you need. But to say Entei has no place in the meta is just simply generalizing to the extreme.

Bulky, Good Attack, Best moveset for a fire pokemon. I am excited to get just one. I think he will be great. But you want to get technical, some people will say other things are better. but you always find a way to use your favorite pokemon.

Which idiots are downvoting the people who think Entei would be useful?
It's obvious there're lots of fire type haters around here...

I think the main point is that discussing about regular gyms is sorta a waste of time/useless honestly.

Is Entei useful for a raid? That's the only question that matters IMO.

Possibly as a neutral attacker, but regular gyms are simply too easy to need any strategy...esp due to demotivated mons. This is why there is a lot of hate for fire types in most messages and then the slew of defenders pop up...

1st fight, I usually go Machamp and clear it if there is 1 Blissey. If not, I go Dnite...Eetei does have Flamethrower, but too many other mons resist fire to begin with (like the still common Dnite, Tyranitar, Rhydon, Vaporeon...etc...If you saw the recent SR posts on gym defenders, the MAJORITY are still the old commons so Entei saves you no time using it on regular gyms...)

Here's the SR thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/6ya1ln/50_most_frequent_gym_defenders_research/

Until an actual raid boss needs it, I think the majority of people will think more fire types are just unecessary at the moment (which I agree with).

For a cool fire type I am powering up Moltres.
Not a real use for fire in the game. Use it if you like it and enjoy.

You will win anyway in the current system. So if you like it, go for it
