Dratini, what would you do?

I'm currently level 27 and dying for a dragonair. (yes, it's unbelievable but I haven't hatched/evolved one yet)
I have a dratini,
Level20 hp11 atk14 def11 total36/45 (80.0%) and 161 candy's
Should I evolve and power up, or wait till I hatch a (close to) perfect IV dratini? What would you do.....

If you don't find dratinis often in the wild and you're out of 10ks, you might as well.

80% is fine and that IV distribution is pretty good, since 14 attack gives more CP than an equal amount of stamina or defence, and 11/15 stamina IV is pretty good when stamina is dragonite's lowest stat.

11 stamina is just 3 less HP than a 15 stamina dragonite.

you're more concerned about moveset with dragonite. even if you did find a better dratini in the wild, there's no guarantee that the higher IV one would have a better moveset.

one issue would be if you're planning to use it to defend and you don't have another dratini to walk as a buddy, so that you can continue gaining candy in case you do find another dratini with good IVs. if you're using your dragonite to attack, this won't matter.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I will make it my primary attacker since I have lots of powerful defenders but a serious lack of strong attackers.

Dratini's around here but for some reason this is the strongest one I could get my hands one over three months of playing.

If I evolve dratini, and it will have the wrong moveset I'll kill it personally :')

It's up to you man. I've hatched 500+ eggs now and only got 3 dratinis and the best was 84. I've caught around 5 and the best was also 84 but a higher cp. 80 is not bad at all, it will be around 90cp less than 100 IV.

If you get attack moveset it doesn't matter anyway.

And it all depends how far you would power it up: that 90 cp difference is only if you power it all the way to level 40 (which means you have to be level 39) and I would think that in the long grind to get there you will come across many more dratinis if this one doesn;t work out with the right moves. Its diminishing returns to power any mon past level 30 because you get only half the CP boost per powerup. At level 30, your dragonite will already have a CP of 2932 (with 141 HP), which is good enough for gym defence and to attack pretty much anything, and is actually only 68 CP and 3HP lower than a perfect IV dragonite at the same level. So if you don't have a better candidate, I would definitely go ahead and evolve and see how the moves look. If they work out, then you have the candy to start powering up. If not, at least you are part way towards your next attempt. I personally ended up with Steel wing and hyperbeam on mine, but powered it up to level 27 anyway - it spends its days in the gym earning me coins and stardust :-)
