Dragonite SW/DC

Hey guys. I had powered a wild 78% Dragonite with Steel Wing and Dragon Claw untill 2686cp and stoped long time ago. I was analyzing and this moveset is ranked as B in gamepress and its the third better to defend (only SW/DP is A). Since the second better move have Steel Wing/Hyper Beam and everyone dodges HB easily, SW/DC can be considered the second best move?.
I dont have other defensive Dragonite and Dratinis are rare in here. I am thinking seriously about to power him till level 31.5 to reach 3000+ and stop in there (he is level 28.5 now). Need some help to decide.

The moveset itself is good enough for defending purposes yes.
However you will be spending a lot of dust and candies for this, and that extra +300cp won't do much defending the gym to be honest.
I prefer to use my dust and candies for attacking pokemons - when talking about powering up past lvl 30, cause they are the ones you really use.

So this is my opinion, but I don't think it's worth it.

I also have SW/DC Dragonite and i only powered it up to get my first 3000cp pokemon, after that i stopped.
Thou i still use it for attacking.

I dont like Dragonites as defenders, Lapras is big weakness for them.

Hello TheFocke. I would like to help you decide with this opinion of mine that is quite contradicting to the first 2 comments above:
- to mikikoooo, I think +300cp additional is a big help lets say in a level 10 gym, a Dragonite that has 3000++ cp will be on the top spot which means you will be the last one to get kicked out of the gym thus making you last longer and collect more daily coins. Maybe not much of a defender like Snorlax or Lapras but if you are the the King (last to beat) in a gym and you have lots of snorlax and lapras underneath the ranking defending it would still be very hard for attackers to eliminate you as they have to kill snorlax & lapras first with the lower max CP before they reach you. Strategic right? and by the time they come to battle your dragonite most of their Pokémon's are dead or at low hp already forcing them to fail an attack. (strategic right?)
- to traveling982, Dragonite's are good attackers/defenders. Its got high base stats, great move sets, & high max CP compared to other Pokémon's. I respect those guys who doesn't like Dragonite a defender but as I have said above, if you have a poliwrath/slowbro @ 100% IV it will max out to 2500++ CP, arcanine, exeggutor, lapras does 2900++ max CP, and snorlax would reach 3100++ at max CP and that is if its got 100% IV (w/c means low IV = lower max CP). Now for a 100% CP dragonite it will max out to 3500 CP and "YOUR DRAGONITE" @ 78% IV will still reach 3300-3400++ CP still higher compared to other Pokémon's still will bring you to a gym's top spot and those other Pokémon's only serving as his "body guards" hehehe...

*please note that all Pokémon's has their own weaknesses, all gyms are beatable, and if your a war freak or an addict attacker, you don't need high CP's, what you need is lots/tons of Pokémon's which you can use strategically to attack having the element advantage and dodging/timing stuff... but being a defender needs you to be on top spot of a gym (higher CP) and only a Dragonite can give you the highest possible CP in the current metagame".

POWER IT UP!! its worth it. Worry about the candies but never worry to a stardust as you can always collect and save one because if you don't, you wont get leveled up. zzzZZZ you want good IV pokemons? hatch lots of eggs and it will also give you tons of stardust as a bonus so no need to worry. (-_-)
