If you dodge (which you really should be), DB/DC is still the best moveset for Dragonite.

DB/DC outputs so much damage and charges energy quickly.

Stick with legacy

To be fair to the new DT movesets, in "stand and fight" scenarios the DPS numbers rank like this:

DT-OR
DT-H
DT-HB
SW-OR
DB-DC
DB-DP
DB-HB
other SW movesets

The thing is, when you dodge all the defender's attacks, DB/DC pulls ahead of all other movesets.

Except dodging every single attack isn't optimal after the rebalance. You want to dodge as many charge attacks as possible since almost all of them got buffed significantly. Most of the time, it's better just to spam through the quick attacks and dodge the charge attacks.

It depends on your definition of "optimal." If by optimal you mean killing one pokemon in the shortest amount of time, then yes dodging only charge attacks is the way to go.

But if your definition of optimal is dealing as much damage with your pokemon as possible (in multiple battles) before fainting, then dodging all the quick attacks is the way to go. I've got several 3490+ CP Dragonites, a few with DB/DC, and I can take out 4-5 pokemon at a time with just one of them -- this is only possible by dodging quick moves as well as charge moves.

Sure, I could kill something a little bit faster if I soak up damage from quick attacks and just spam away, but my mon is going to faint more quickly, and in the end I will be using more potions and revives, etc.

My definition of optimal is dealing the most damage before fainting and using fewer potions/revives. This is achieved by dodging as much as possible, and DB-DC is the golden ticket for this strategy.

I'd wager that I can put out more damage, and faint more pokemon with a single DB/DC Dragonite than I can with DT-OR. That's simply because DB/DC allows for effective dodging while DT-OR simply doesn't offer that flexibility. Sure, I'll faint the first pokemon faster with DT-OR, but my own Dragonite is going to have far less remaining % of HP when all is said and done.

If you dodge every attack, you run the risk of getting hit with more charged attacks. And after the rebalance with the charged attacks dealing so much more damage than the quick attacks, it's better to dodge only charged attacks. And even with dodging DT/OR outperforms DB/DC according to every battle simulator available.

Run a simulation for DT-OR vs. DB/DC, in which the opponent attacks every 2 seconds, and you dodge every quick move. Do the same for 2.5 seconds, and 3 seconds as well.

DB-DC puts out more damage and energy in all of those above situations. It's just simple math. DT 1.1 second cooldown, you can't fit in two between 2 seconds, whereas you can fit in 4x DB.

1x DT = 15 damage and 8 energy
4x DB = 24 damage and 16 energy

Same applies for situations where defender uses its quick move every 2.5 or 3 seconds. Basically DT is only going to pull ahead in dodging scenarios where the defender attacks every 2.2 seconds, or 3.3 seconds.

DB is just superior dude.
