I caught a 2400 CP Dragonite with DT/O. Unfortunately, his IV is only 20 %. My question is, is it worth poweruping?

I would never, instead would use him as an attacker.

Yes, power up. It's a no brainer. Up to level 30 only though.

I went with my 40% iv db/dc a bit higher, to be 3k. Not sure necessary, but was my top CP back then :).

I caught a 91iv Dratini and evolved it. Unfortunately, his move set is Steel Wing + Hyper Beam. My question is, is it worth keeping?

I wouldn't steel wing is really bad sorry

If you need a high CP defender, then power it up. Defensive moves don't really matter - any gym will be taken down. However, if you want a good Dragonite attacker and don't have it yet, then don't power it up.

how easy is it to catch 5 dratini (with some pinup) to get to level 30?

IV's mater less for high base stat mons and it looks like it will be roughly 2800 at level 30

Are you implying that Dratini spawn like it's nothing? They aren't as rare as Grimer or Koffing but you sure don't load up the game and see em on the nearby list

no that was why it was asked as a question. some people are swimming in them some rarely see them at all.

In the end the OP's individual circumstance determines the outcome. Is a 2800cp (3070 if perfect) dragonite (but probably not worth going much higher) with DT/DO worth 35 candy?
Is he after usable tools at the cheapest cost or is he playing for the long game?

I sat on a 75% db/dc for months trying to decide this and only ended up spending the candy when it went legacy.

In the Op's case the worse IV's make it a more marginal long term proposition but it's good moves and relatively high level make it a cheep investment. It's a tough call.

It took me 5 months to get my first 5 dratini...it is harder for some than it is for others.

Depends how much dratini candy do you have and how hard are they to come by in your area? If your close enough to possibly evolve another dnite I would wait, find a good iv dratini and if it gets the same or another ideal moveset power that up.

I have 49 candies right now. Dratini is not very rare in my area, but im a bit afraid of Steel Wing :D I evolved another Dratini (84 % iv) few days earlier and got SW+H. He has 2k cp.

Honestly steel wing isn't as bad as people say it is, it's just that it doesn't have stab since it's not a flying/dragon type move compared to dnites dragon tail but besides that it's honestly just as good. Also steel wings cooldown time is .80 compared to dragon tail which is 1.10 so for attacking if you dodge a lot steel wing is better in that case. I would say power the SW/H one since it has a Decent rating for both defensive and attacking purposes and has decent iv's . I would say the same for the DT/O since it's the best moveset according to the site but the iv's are so low it doesn't seem worth it to me but it still has pretty high cp so you can use it for attacking unless of course you just wanna do it so you can be high up in gyms it's your call.
